Stage 2 Car Seat?

Hi all,

I am looking to move my 3 year old son into the next stage car seat and have been looking at the Kiddy Guardian Pro.

Does anyone have this seat? Opinions greatly received.

Don't know this one, but ours is similar in design. Husband and I have had no end of trouble with carseats since moving Little Saff out of her newborn carseat.

We're now on our 3rd carseat and have opted for a forward-facing seat which will convert to a child booster seat when she's tall enough. We thought we were doing the right thing getting a forward-facing convertable seat b/c she seemed to want to face forward and her legs are so long. I couldn't see how she'd be comfortable in a rear-facing seat.

That being said, rear-facing seats are safer in high speed collisions, but there isn't a great selection of them in the UK. And while Little Saff was never sick in her old rear-facing seat, she's been sick at least 3 times in her forward-facing seat, and we only travel by car a few times a month! She doesn't seem to be able to bring up wind well in her carseat. She just ends up vomitting instead. I wonder if it was false economy to buy the toddler convertible seat? Perhaps a purpose built carseat would have been better? Maybe rear-facing would have been better?

I don't know if any of that helps. Just wanted to share our experience. There are a few other threads on carseats. The one on rear-facing seats for older babies and toddlers was particularly thought-provoking.

Hi,

we have the kiddy guardian pro; bought it a couple of months ago for our (now) 19 month old. Chosen because of the which? safety reports and because it's easy to move between cars. We don't own a car but do hire cars/ use street cars/ get taxis so we needed to be sure it would fit any make of car. The impact shield thing does look a little strange at first but my son doesn't seem to mind it at all (he falls asleep in cars instantly anyway) He's at the age now where he can wiggle out of a 5-point harness so we're glad it doesn't have/need one. I'm not sure at what age or weight you stop using the impact shield, so this might be irrelevant for your 3 year old.

We got it from John Lewis Bluewater where we "tried it on" - i.e. they have a car seat set up there for trying out different models, this was really helpful for us to get our heads around how it worked with just the car seatbelt.

Saffron - could it be Mini-Saff gets travel sick rather than trapped wind?? I remember my brother use to suffer and mum tried various medicines and once he was a bit older sea bands would work (he grew out of it by 12/13yrs).

She is only sick when she has had food or milk in the toddler carseat. :( Getting her out of the carseat to burp makes her better. It was never a problem in the infant carseats. Not sure if a different seat would help now, but I like the idea of getting to trial them at Bluewater.
