My fianc?e and I are getting married on 14th July in South Kensington. We are running pretty tight on the budget front, and we need a car to transport her from Exhibition Road (where she is getting ready) to Brompton Road (the wedding venue). This is a distance of about 500 yards(!) - her dad is very excited to share this ride with her so I would love to get something to make this special for them both.

However, as the trip is so short - we're reluctant to spend the standard ?500 fee to hire a wedding car for what will be a 4 or 5 minute drive. I don't suppose there are any neighbours or friends who could help us out?

We'd like a car to make the trip special - she has always loved Nissan Figaros - but if this is not possible, we're fairly modest any vintage/retro style car's would certainly tick the box. If you or any neighbours have a car that you feel would fit the bill - we'll make sure we repay you in whatever way we can for helping us out - (budget is around ?100-150).

Ah shame. Maybe this site would help: https://www.bookaclassic.co.uk/

Failing that, at a mate's wedding in Wandsworth that was on a v.tight budget, to surprise him and his wife someone brought along a chauffer's hat and we found an amenable taxi driver who let us temporarily put white ribbons on the car and had them driven away in that. Cabbie was offered ?50 on top of fare (which I think was only about ?8 or something)- he refused even to take the fare!

Amazing! I think "Wedding car" makes it sound like we're expecting something super shiny - my fianc?e would be so happy with one them that we could have the ushers push it round the corner and she'd be happy! Her and her dad are literally going from Ognisko on exhibition road, to HTB on brompton road (basically driving around 1 corner of the V&A - hence our horror at the ?500 quotes we've received! If you have no luck looking elsewhere, I'd really appreciate the chance to have a peek at yours!

Thank you both for all your help! Really is so wonderful to be part of such a helpful community in the area.

    • Well I did say I stand to be corrected! Fair enough, their website only seemed to list three branches. Perhaps it's a franchise model?  It's known as 'agglomeration' in economics Rookie error.
    • I didn't know there was a word for that — thanks!
    • This is just normal business behaviour. That's why there are so many coffee shops in ED and shops selling gifts and interiors stuff, clothes, restaurants.  If there's more than one business of a similar type then it can benefit all of them up to a saturation point and keep up quality. It's all sounding like many think Chango has made a malicious move when it actually sounds like it's owned by one guy who has a good business that has done well.   Anyway this is all great advertising for both empanada places. Very close by is the organic grocer who sells really good value and very tasty samosas and other Indian snacks which are also worth trying.
