kapaxiana
I would like to donate breastmilk, does anyone knows how it works? Do I collect at home or do I go to the hospital to pump? I have found a phone number online but no one answers it. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19668-kings-college-milk-bank/ Share on other sites
catgirl
You need to go there initially for a blood test and sign some forms and collect bottles. Then you just express at home and store in the freezer and call them when you want them to collect. They don't answer the phone but leave a message and they'll call you back. kapaxiana
Thank you, so do I just go to the maternity ward? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19668-kings-college-milk-bank/#findComment-476320 Share on other sites
The Nappy Lady
No you need to arrange an appointment for the blood test etc.Maybe call the main Kings number and ask them to put you through - you should get an answer machine where you can leave a message for them and they get back to you. If all else fails I'd ask for Claire Kevdis as I'm sure she could help get you sorted (she took my blood when I was a donor). It's very easy - hope you get sorted. Yak
Good on you! They are pretty low on donors, I believe. They'll tell you when they call you where to go for the test- from memory, it's the post natal ward (but I could be wrong). There's a thread on this I can dig out later (or search milk bank in the top right hand box). mrs f
http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,408511,page=1 Here is an old thread with the number to call. I became a donor recently. I called & left a message & they called me back the next day then we arranged a blood test but in the meantime they had sent me some bottles. I filled up all the bottles so someone came over & collected it all up. So it's very easy (presuming you are already pumping) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19668-kings-college-milk-bank/#findComment-476340 Share on other sites
kapaxiana
Thank you, Yes I am already pumping and have bags of frozen milk in the freezer 'just in case' so thought I might as well donate some since I seem to produce plenty. Will call them today. hellosailor
when a hospital runs out of donated breast milk and has to buy it from another hospital's bank I believe it costs about ?100 a litre so it's brilliant that you're donating! Wish I could have done but nothing much ever came out when I pumped! :-S Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/19668-kings-college-milk-bank/#findComment-476465 Share on other sites
