Well, not on the Rye but over the other side of it, to be exact. I know it's not East Dulwich, but it's very near (just next to Soper's the fishmonger on Evalina Rd).

This excellent place, called Bambuni, has been open just a week, I discovered today. It sells lovely bread, salami etc, and has really good coffee. But the really clever thing is that it sells wine and olive oil from the barrel, and provides nice, re-usable bottles to put it in. The five-quid southern-French red I got there this morning certainly beats anything you'd get for that money elsewhere.

And before anyone asks, no, I don't work there or know the owner.

Have to agree, went there this morning on my usual trip to the excellent Sopers fishmongers and had a very nice Latte. Nice people, were't aware of this thread. Good selection of breads and cheese and as has been said, wine and nice olive oil in barrels. Life outside Lordship Lane? Surely not...

Indeed, next to Wendy in the lovely AG Flower shop, Sopers the fish shop, and near Ayres Bakers and Kristals the pharmacy that sells absolutely everything.

What I love about Nunhead is it hasn't (yet!) got any little trinkety shops.

Fab addition to the neighbourhood!

At a guess then half the time you walk past they are open and the other times they are not. That gizmo on your wrist might be worth consulting during these occasions...;-)

Seriously, the opening times are on the website but I've pasted them here:

Tuesday - Friday: 10am - 7pm, Saturday: 8am - 6pm, Sunday: 10.00am - 4pm. So looks like Mondays are orf!

Enjoy your visit.

Their wines are pretty good, tried both the red and the white (not from a tumbler).

I was eager to try the redchurch brewery beers - and I did and they were very tasty - but found them very expensive at ?2.85 for 330ml bottles. Is this the price of a decent microbrewery not far from home, or was I ripped off?

Good on you for not accepting anything resembling a tumbler as the Actress said to the Bishop. I don't think ?2.85 is a rip off if you consider a bottle of Corona 330ml will cost you ?3.30 in Boho on Lordship Lane, of course you pay for the ambience.... ;-)

Is that to drink in there, or to take out? If the former, then it's not bad.

    • Watching my cats over the years with foxes, I've found that foxes have totally ignored them. One exception was when a young fox hadn't seen my cat and found himself eye to eye with my cat at a distance of 1 metre. There was a stand off but the fox blinked first and my cat chased him out of the garden. So proud of her. I believe when foxes have attacked cats, the cat has been vulnerable  - old, young, ill wounded.
    • It's also possible that someone is hand feeding foxes and encouraging them by this to approach others. I have heard of foxes attacking young children (if only anecdotally) but not adults. They do seem to attack cats.
    • I've noticed the foxes are very frisky at the moment, it's mating season. Perhaps it was a male fox who saw you as a danger to his vixen and wanted to see you off.
    • I’m not sure how many other people have experienced this; but both me and one of my friends have the same story. Around Crawthew Grove and Crystal Palace Road: I was followed by a large fox right on my heel. At first I didn’t notice because I had my headphones on, but then I noticed my shadow had an extra lump in it, funnily enough, it was a fox, very very close to my feet. Even if I sped up walking it just tried to get closer - it was quite frightening actually, it was quite clear that it wanted to nip me. I didn’t know what to do so, I started to reprimand the fox and walked slowly away from it, facing it - which it didn’t seem to like and backed off a bit. I then proceeded to speed-walk away.   Quite frankly, the whole situation was quite embarrassing and a little bit frightful as I’d never had a fox even come up to me. I’ve heard of particularly curious foxes that might come up to someone who beckons them, and maybe even bite that person, but I’ve never heard of a fox chasing someone. The amount of confidence that it had was incredible.    When it happened, I was on the way to see some friends, and once I had told one of them, she told me the same thing happened to her.  if anyone else knows anything about this bitey fox then let me know!
