My son and I walked past an old building today on the way to Brockwell park. We looked over the front briefly however couldn't come to any conclusion about its past. Any old school residents available to shed some light. Ive attached a photo. I think it could of been a market? or perhaps a garage. Any info or photos would be very interesting. Were not in the property development game or anything. just very curious :)

two extracts from urban75 thread

"Full marks to those who identified this Edwardian building as a dairy. It was designated a Locally Listed Building by Lambeth Council in 2012 - the listing description reads: 279 Rosendale Road SE24 9EJ - Arts and Crafts style former milk depot with attractive brick frontage building. 1906. banded fa?ade with buillseye windows. it is protected by the Peabody Estate Conservation Area designated in 1999."

"Ok Buckle up.

What you see are the remains of what was an Express milk depot. I lived on the estate next door from 1957 till around 25 years ago. We would hang out outside the dairy waiting for the electric milk floats to exit then help the milkman put the milk on residents doorsteps for a couple of bob. There was an express shop to the left and a milk machine where we could score chocolate milk.."

    • I haven't had a rude EVRI delivery but last week I had an unexpected delivery at 10.42 pm. He didn't ring the bell or knock on the door (or rattle the letter flap) but just took a photo and put the box down.  If it hadnt been for the door camera giving us a beep we would never have known there was a parcel ready to sit there all night.
    • Sorry if I’m being slow but there’s no point in having a gate then is there?  Would have thought it was basic manners to respect someone’s property

    • I have a rescue Spanish greyhound (galgo) from the charity mentioned above. You can contact Greyhounds in Need or one of the more local Kent greyhound rescue charities. They are fantastic family dogs. They do love walkies 2 or 3 times a day but they actually don't need to be walked too far and then they will happily loaf around on the sofa being very chill. They are brilliant with kids but not recommended if you own a cat as they have a strong prey drive. They also should be kept on the lead in local parks. They prefer to be around other sight-hounds (well my one does) and there are loads of local sighthound owners in Peckham, Crystal Palace etc and a very lively WhatsApp group that is brilliant if you need dog sitting as you can usually find someone to do that for free in return for you looking after the dog at a later date etc.
