  1. Really interesting R4 programme on this company - ‘You and Yours’ consumer programme today. They are tricking people into a business contract which is not protected by consumer rights. Put the phone down, by even talking to them you are entering into a verbal agreement which has cost people thousands of pounds to exit according to the programme.
  2. Without fully thinking it through we recently agreed to be switched over and then had a nightmare of a month without Internet. They switched us over without actually making a physical connection to the fibre! BT were great but as the work is actually done by Openreach and they seem to have no control over them whatsoever, it was sheer chaos. Eventually we managed to be returned to our previous copper connection. I think they are totally unprepared and the digital system / equipment is unsuited to anyone older, with an alarm or without a smart phone. They won’t want to tell you but if you are older and have Certain health conditions, a personal alarm etc they have to make an exception to leave you as you are and not force a switch over till they stop the copper network sometime in 2025.
  3. I had exactly the same experience as Jenijenjen with the Lib Dem petition of being added to The Lib Dem via database without my permission via James Barker. I had to ring their press office and complain. How cynical and arrogant of the Labour Party to exploit a real local concern to harvest email contacts. I despair…
  4. When we first moved into the area, going to the lido on a Sunday morning was great. Then lidos because unfashionable, Southwark concentrated on the indoor baths at Goose Green and it didn’t have a pressure group who championed it. The lido is still there, just filled in and the wooden changing rooms and entrance was taken down. If you look carefully there is a funny mound, this covers up a circular very 1930s fountain that stood at one end of it. You wouldn’t be starting to build a lido from scratch. It was really wonderful and would be brilliant to get it going again.
  5. Can I add my recommendation for Dave Reilly. So skilled and knowledgeable, a real pleasure to deal with. A big big thank you to him for sorting our problem out this week, we felt in really good hands.
  6. Can I add my recommendation for Greg. He came and sorted out a problem we had this week. Beyond his excellence in thinking through what was needed and carrying out the work, he was an absolute pleasure to deal with. We look forward to asking him to create some storage units for us soon. Thank you again Greg, you are a real star!
  7. How bizarre! How can we help/show support for you? I am already making my ‘these people are idiots’ placard.
  8. Yes, I’m sure it’s the same people. My friend (the first post in this thread) was bombarded by ‘funny’ follow up calls, after the original incident, that went on for days. Even if other people answered the phone, they tried to speak to her directly even pretending to be the police.. ‘my sergeant and I will be round tonight to catch the bad woman’. I suspect it’s a family enterprise.
  9. Sounds absolutely like the same woman. The ‘talking on the phone to her mother and reference to Brighton’, same description. She is obviously targeting older women who she thinks live alone. Well done to your friend for getting away from her.
  10. Thank you Pugwash, reported to Police at time, forensics gathered and SNT informed. These people are nasty, unsure what level of menace used so please please look out for them. X
  11. Last weekend a friend had the bad luck to cross paths with a woman con artist crying that she had been robbed. This was near East Dulwich station, this scumbag then took her to several cash machines before escorting her home and getting in her house. Unfortunately they still think they have found an easy mark so it does not stop here. So, please be aware of the ‘distressed’ woman approach but even more importantly if you see anything / anyone in odd behaviour around someone who might be vunerable please step in and challenge. If the person is genuine they will understand. These people can fool anyone but please trust your instincts and look out for others.
  12. In our road, close to East Dulwich station, we fought off having a CPZ for many years but now have one. It is only for two hours a day between 9-11am. It has made no difference to the amount of cars parking and somehow it feels instead of being ?our? road it is ?their? (The council?s) road. We don?t even have a car but have to pay for a parking permit if anyone comes to do repairs.
  13. It amused me that even the Tory candidates? leaflet which was delivered today shows their incompetence and arrogance so typical of their government. Their ?manifesto? seems generalised blah blah blah and the environmental proposals odd, I can?t see how repealing parking charges, no thoughts on public transport and double standards on ?unpopular road closures? fit together somehow but what really got me is they are even so stupid they can?t even get their own leaflet right, West Dulwich Station photo is reversed (unless we are now making all our signs back to front to confuse any invading riffraff from Peckham) and the text beneath the final photo says ?use this caption describe the main picture? - believe me I will!
  14. I suspect it was a ?prop? used for fundraising efforts like The Spitfire Fund. During the war, local fundraising days often featured a ?plane? as a big attraction to help fill the collecting buckets. Maybe it was just parked there when the need passed.
  15. Oh no, how terrible. It?s a sign of the times, what with WW3 breaking out and all. How did you survive no Daily Mirror for a day and worse still the poor hapless staff not falling on their knees with apologies before a tax payer. I really feel for you, the world is so unjust
  16. Well, a little internet search has produced the answer! A SC2 permit is to trade as a nail bar - SC2 Nail treatments licence terms and conditions (Greenwich Council. Makes perfect sense given the way Southwark is acting
  17. Pm me if you have lost a key on the road today
  18. A couple of weeks ago we had a young Italian man knocking on the door with a story about needing money for a hostel bed. We gave him some change and he came back a week later asking for twenty pounds. Maybe it's the same lad.
  19. So eloquent, thank you Chener!
  20. Fantastic painting, thank you and I too think they are fab. More paintings please...
  21. Yes, ring the raven keeper at the Tower. It would be fantastic if it was. I saw a news item when it went awol and he was very upset.
  22. Also, there has been a small thing called Covid which would have made the normal routine sugery visits that councillors make round their wards a tad difficult...
  23. In the past we have had Shaun Owens (07974 943346) come to do similar work. Lovely guy, very professional, I would absolutely recommend him. Hope that helps.
  24. Sorry, I can't help smiling imagining the poor hapless manager confronted by a person waving a tiny spoon saying they had been watching it for a year, truly zen.
  25. I agree Fishbiscuits, well said
