Lovely thread. So glad I'm not the only soppy fool. In the Night Garden intro and the 'Looking up, looking down..etc' music makes my heart ache too much - btw, does anyone else wonder if the Night Garden is an allegory on the after life?

My boys only 2yrs now but I'm already worrying how I will get through the school nativity without being reduced to convulsive sobbing.

I've always thought of it as dream land. Afterlife adds rather a sinister edge to it, like the other place in Twin Peaks with the backward speaking midget *shudders*

Aaaaanyway, there is a wonderful song called "Roller in the coaster" by a guy called Justin Roberts, who sings songs for kids. Beautiful lyrics, and I love to cuddle my daughter to it.

Oooh - I agree with Otta, the afterlife does make it all seem a bit creepy. Plus, the thought of seeing Iggle Piggle et al on the other side does not appeal! I've also thought it's a dream-like place, as the child at the beginning falls asleep Iggle Piggle floats off on his boat into the night to the land of dreams.

The solo at the beginning of 'Once in Royal David's City' always gets me as well. We watch 'Carols from Kings' on Christmas Eve and hearing it always makes me feel like christmas has properly started. Just thinking of watching it with my little boy for the first time this christmas is making me feel quite emotional.

    • and when it's such a small increase, it doesn't really matter, does it.
    • I’m not trying to say anything.  I’m explicitly citing the example of the party with most to gain by saying “councils waste money.  We will go in and bust that whole nonsense up!” Only to go in and go whoops. We need more money not less ive deliberately posted a link to a sympathetic (to them) news outlet specifically so no one can go “well the guardian would say that”   why try and hypothesise?
    • Marveling at the chutzpah of Brexit supporters wanging on about a 4.99% increase in council tax which equates to circa £94/year for the average Band D, whereas it's conservatively estimated* that Brexit has cost each UK household circa £1k/year.  At least with council tax there are actual tangible benefits e.g. weekly waste clearance.  *Based on BoE report 2023...
    • so to summarise, "Party X is stating that Council Y is financially inefficient and saving can be realised or efficiencies made, but when the exercise has been completed, it was found that no savings were achievable". I don't know if you are trying to say that has happened or that if it does happen, that is what would happen.
