Two people on a scooter - faces completely hidden by visors, number plate covered with a bin liner - mounted the pavement twice in quick succession on Sunday afternoon, trying to steal people's smartphones, in the area by Nunhead station. Fortunately, they were unsuccessful both times. Unfortunately, I was too slow to get any pictures.

This sort of thing's prevalent in other parts of town, so it's no a surprise that it's here too. Hopefully it was an isolated incident but please remember to keep your wits about you if you're walking and using your smartphone.

Sorry I still won't be cowed like that - we might as well not wear watches as that is a prime target too - it's letting Katy Hopkins win making out London is a no go area - just use your common sense and keep your eyes open.

Hi Pedro, please could you report this to the police. There is CCTV coverage of the area outside Nunhead station. You mention that they had their faces and the bike number plates covered, but if they are known to the local police they may be able to track them down.

Checking the time won't make the bus come any faster- leave your phone in your pocket- they will TARGET bus stops in secluded places. It's about time they had displays in these bus shelters

Funding crisis is getting worse and the VAT on Education pushed children out of independent schools, now their SEND needs are to be met by the state.
    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
