Where to get a watch strap changed?

I really don't want to pay Timpson's prices.

If, as is usual, it's secured by small rods containing a spring, you can do it yourself. All that's needed is to find something small and rigid enough to depress the spring, so that the rod can be slipped out. There are specific tools for the job, but I've never used one. Google "replace watch strap" for various sets of instructions and guides.

One recent exception: the one on my cheap plastic Casio digital turned out not to be spring loaded. It had just a rod with a latching projection at one end, like those little nylon thread thingies used eg to attach labels to new clothes. That one I had to bend to get it out, then straighten it for re-use.

Thanks ianr. It's more the new strap (at a reasonable cost) that I'm after - I went to Timpson and I don't want to pay their prices if I can avoid that. As for fitting it myself - thank you for your help, but bugger that... :))

Laddy Muck, have you tried googling the watch model plus strap?

You must be able to get one from eBay or somewhere.

Oh, and I am really cack handed but I actually managed to replace the battery in my Casio watch, so if I can do that I'm sure you can replace a strap yourself!

And yes, Timpsons are really expensive. I got a battery for less than a quid on eBay, and Timpsons would have charged more than I paid for the watch to replace the battery (including the cost of the battery)!!! No wonder they do stuff whilst you are shopping, they don't want you to see that it takes about a millisecond.

I got mine changed at the dry cleaners/ cobblers next to the post office in LL.

There's a shoe/watch repair/key-cutting place in Peckham High Street across the road from the Post Office.
