  1. (a) can re-connect a gas cooker which has been disconnected for safety reasons (b) fixes gas cookers (c) can perform carbon monoxide tests on gas cookers and boilers. Thanking you in advance 😊 (@ traders: please do not send me private messages recommending yourselves - I will delete)
  2. Caution: Last night (c7pm) trains were leaving ED towards Caterham. However, by 9pm trains towards LB were NOT stopping at ED. Make of that what you will.
  3. I am hoping you will see this. If so, please could you send me a PM. I have your bank card. Thanks.
  4. Sue, I think that the surgery is usually closed for a large chunk of the day every Thurs. for training. You might have caught them during those hours. I called them quite late today outside of their training hours and got through no problem.
  5. Not strictly comedy, but I do end up laughing...COLUMBO on 5USA! Happy New Year Doc!
  6. You cynic KK! Though I do know what you mean :)). Zak is correct about the sign on the door, though I'm not sure about the precise hours as I wasn't wearing my glasses at the time. Shaun's nephew is now running the shop and this is just one of the changes he is making. Nephew is as helpful as ever (he has been helping out in the shop for some time now). Been going there for nearly 30 years because of the can do attitude and expertise offered.
  7. @ Jason, It was actually via one of your posts that I saw Harry's name. So thank you for that. I wasn't sure whether or not to plump for him as I'd had poor experiences with recommended window cleaners on here. Anyway, I took a punt and am so pleased I did. I will definitely keep using him and recommending him. Top notch guy and really very reasonably priced especially given the high standard of his work.
  8. I'd tried 3 different window cleaners (each once only!) which were recommended on here and I wasn't happy with any of them. Today I used Harry Gosling and I am absolutely delighted with the job he has made of our windows/doors. He cleaned them thoroughly the "old fashioned" way with his ladder, bucket and that squeezy-blade-thing which traditional window cleaners use. Result: truly sparkling windows. He washed the window cills and frames too. What a difference! All at a fraction of the price of the others. He is such a nice chappie too. You can contact him directly on: 07894506863.
  9. It's like a fairy tale. The Pink and Blues get turfed out, they move to an alternative ground, they win the league, they are promoted, they are allowed to returned to CH, and they win on their first match back at home to a crowd of 3,000. Well fought and long may you continue. (tu)
  10. Tee hee - I love it, BNG. Very creative, and I especially like the way you have included the "anti-heroes" too @ 9 across - very clever. (tu) (tu) (tu)
  11. Good evening, Tchaikovsky - especially his ballets.
  12. Hello, Sorry to give you more work...but...there is a question for you on the Dulwich Hamlet thread. I didn't post it, but I, too, would like to know the answer. Indeed, it's a good question! Thanking you in advance.

Best news this year for me. About fecking time though. Thanks for posting, isnottropical.
  14. Lordship Flooring have just replaced all our carpets and I just want to say how delighted we are with the end result; i.e. the carpet itself and the fitting of it. Most of all, we are very impressed with their customer service. From the outset it has been excellent and, in that regard, I would like to give "Ian" a special mention: you were helpful from the beginning through till the end helping us choose in the knowledge that we both had different tastes and that we didn't have an unlimited budget. You also worked with us knowing that, due to our busy worklife, we had little available time for choosing and arranging of fitting etc. and your patience and assistance meant we ended up with exactly what we wanted, on budget and within a reasonable period. We especially appreciated your patience as we know that we (and by "we" I mean "I" :)) ) can be difficult to please! A very minor issue arose at the fitting stage. However, this was swiftly resolved by the owner of the business himself (Glen) who took a genuine interest in ensuring our 100% satisfaction. I call that true customer service. So a nod goes to Glen too. The fitters were extremely efficient and have done a lovely job. They were easy to have around in our currently chaotic house. Thank you to the whole team and we look forward to using you again for two relatively minor jobs (bathroom and understairs cupboard) once the house is returned to normality. Summary: you don't need to venture out of ED to get your flooring sorted. Glen's business has a wide variety of floorings to suit most tastes, his staff are knowledgeable and helpful and the prices are reasonable. Moreover, should something arise about which you are not entirely happy - no matter how minor - our experience is that Glen will quickly take responsibility and rectify. 10/10.

Thanks for the update, BNG. And @ James Barber: what's happening about (what looks to me like) the permanent barricade?
  17. Thanks everybody! I will try the LL one first and, if need be, go to the one in PHS. *waves to ianr from yacht*
  18. Update. We had two poor and frustrating experiences due to incomplete and sloppy work with 2 different decorators who were contracted to paint our hall. In the end we called Brian to come and put the whole mess right - which he did (well Malachi did!). Whilst we were at it, we got Brian to quote us for 3 bedrooms. We also obtained 2 other quotes and, although not cheap, Brian's came in at the cheapest. Again, a beautiful job. I wish I'd used him from the outset; the others may have been "cheap" but in the end I ended up paying more because their work had to be put right. So, thank you Brian and Malachi.

  20. Thanks ianr. It's more the new strap (at a reasonable cost) that I'm after - I went to Timpson and I don't want to pay their prices if I can avoid that. As for fitting it myself - thank you for your help, but bugger that... :))
  21. The Grove Vale Practice used to have someone who practiced in that area. I don't know whether she is still there - give them a call. And I hope you get it resolved soon. I used to have it around my hairline and ears and took to consuming lots of flax seed oil for it. It worked a treat for me but then mine wasn't anywhere near as bad as your sounds. I hope you get it resolved soon - apart from the obvious irritation and unsightliness, I know it can make one feel quite miserable.
  22. I agree that Hawkins have a good choice of frames and mounts and I've no reason to believe that they don't offer a good service. However, I'm interested in the comment that they are cheaper than others in the area. I guess it rather depends on who they are compared with. I recently obtained a framing quote from both our local Hawkins and David Mitchell Picture Frames Limited in Lewisham and I saved a staggering ?300 (yes - three hundred pounds!) by choosing the latter. And they delivered for free! I cannot rate them highly enough. Sure, their shop isn't as "posh" as Hawkins's but they are a friendly, popular (there was often a queue when I visited) established family business who deliver knowledge, skill, choice and a generally excellent service at a very reasonable cost. Well worth the journey into Lewisham in my opinion.
  23. I really don't want to pay Timpson's prices. Happy to travel outside of immediate areas of ED and Peckham. Thank you.
  24. I could have sworn I saw some in the Co-op Pharmacy on the right towards the old Police Station. Unfortunately I can't remember whether or not they were covered in plastic; and it was a while ago.
