These days Apple no longer have a performance leap over windows pc and with a possible Windows 8 release next year it seems Microsoft would be the performance leader. It also possible possible to hack a PC to dual boot Apple OS so the argument about which is better is now pretty much irrelevant. I just feel sorry for the Apple fans who think they are getting something special but actually they are overpriced nicely designed products. At least I'm not exploited for my lack of ignorance by the Apple corporation.

@Otta,

For around ?500 you can pick up a not bad system, Intel i5's, and certainly beats the HP crap using the i3 processor. But I guess you may want to pay just little bit more for something that looks nicer.

Still arguing and bitching on here, will never change.>:D<

Otta, just check the vouchers are still valid, you should be able to get them extended. Just been given a load and they last about a year and a half.

If your daughter is going to bash about on this, i would go for a cheaper option as in the pc, you can always replace the plug in keyboard. Cheaper to fix also. I use both mac and pc. The argument between people for mac vs pc will continue always.

ROFLMFAO (sorry to lower the "tone"!) @ "Hifi quality"

Oh dear I've got a stitch!

So you're all set.

You've got your cassette deck with 'feather touch' buttons, Dolby HX-Pro and pointlessly slow eject mechanism.

The speakers are on acoustically treated stands, placed at optimum stereo separation.

You've got your gold-plated leads and your cables have less oxygen (or something) in them than the other ones you could have bought (or is it more..? whatever..)

So all that remains is to kick your loafers off, slip REO Speedwagon on and crank that mutha all the way up to '4'.

The main reason for building a PC is so that I can tick all my boxes for my requirements. For example, the fans must be whisper quiet, the computer must be fast with no lagging, powerful PC performance that is suited to my needs, compact system, quality monitor, and above all a stylish system that will make an Apple Imac look like an overprice plastic junk.

Unfortunately, you're not going to get a computer which tick all of the boxes if you buy one from a PC vendor unless you pay an extortionate amount of money like you do with Apple products.

So Otta, the choice is yours as it's your money and you may have to make a number of compromises before you buy one. With the number of don't know any better people starting to appear on this thread I think it's time for me to better spend my time looking for my ideal PC speakers and PC sound system.

I do like a nice stylish PC.

    • Using the smart CCTV cameras is your best strategy - particularly if they have adequate infra-red capability. Setting them to be triggered by line crossing or areas of intrusion is worthwhile setting up as is linking them to a PIR sensor. The PIR could also be used to activate a sounder but that might upset your other neighbours. I have a few cameras around our property and I enjoy reviewing the recordings and apart from foxes and birds, I catch the occasional opportunistic thief on camera - like this one last Tuesday. If you need any help, please drop me a PM. S7.mp4

    • Well unless the heron got them later, there were the  two cootlets. I think some others of this year's babies must have escaped the heron. Many years ago (and possibly still, though I never see them any more) there was a whole heron family on the island  - mum, dad and youngster. I don't know how long herons live. Maybe this one is the grown up youngster.
