anyjoy
Hi, we are close to starting the dreaded weaning with our 5 month old and would love to know if there are any weaning workshops that take place locally as feel so unsure where to start and my health visitor is not particularly helpful :) any ideas? Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20312-weaning-workshop-locally/ Share on other sites

Jasmina
A friend informed me of a weaning workshop that is happening tomorrow from 1.30-3pm at the Albrighton Centre, next to DKH School. sophiechristophy
Just to let you know, there is great inconsistency in weaning advice from the NHS/Children's Centre's, from borough to borough. Depending on the individual leading the training, you can get very different advice. The Infant Feeding Coordinator in Islington Borough for example strongly advocates baby led weaning, and this is reflected across their weaning advice, however not all boroughs are up to date with this. It is worth bearing this in mind when you do any weaning workshops, and also reading Gill Rapley's book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baby-led-Weaning-Helping-Your-Baby/dp/0091923808 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20312-weaning-workshop-locally/#findComment-501943 Share on other sites
Jasmina
Fair point about the inconsistency re baby Led Weaning. The individual leading todays event wasn't particularly pro, her advice pointed out the cons but not the pro's.Anyjoy - Glad you got to make it. x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/20312-weaning-workshop-locally/#findComment-501960 Share on other sites
sophiechristophy
Jasmina - the reason for this is likely to be that the person leading the workshop does not have a full understanding of baby led weaning, and so does not have the confidence to share the benefits with parents. This is due to poor training of staff, not a comment against baby led weaning.
