  1. Just to say, I used Dan and he was great! I was a bit concerned about leaving my iPhone but took a chance and it worked out fine. After spending some time chatting to him I knew he was honest and just likes fixing things. I fully recommend him and will use him again - no doubt my toddler will break my screen again!
  2. Thanks Nik for your recommendation. Has anyone else used Dan? I'm planning on using his service later today and wondered if the forum could offer any of recommendations. Thanks!
  3. Thanks Juliet. I'll get in touch with them. J x
  4. Hi, Would appreciate any recommendations for good removal firms. Will be moving to Sussex to happy to consider non local firms too. I can box up everything, but won't be able to dismantle beds / wardrobes, etc as will be juggling a toddler at same time. I'll want the firm to have insurance and put together beds/wardrobes and install washing machine at the other end. Thanks in advance.
  5. Hi everyone, Thanks for all your replies - they are extremely helpful. Only 2 in my household (including me), although we'll have guests staying some weekends. HunterHtingSolutions - How am I supposed to find out how many litres per minute is flowing in to the property? Is this something a plumber could work out?
  6. I'm buying a house that has an ancient boiler (downstairs) and tank (first floor). There is a rubbish electric shower in the bathroom. Water seems to warm up ok in the rest of the house.. As I'm selling a flat and moving into a house I'm not sure what would be best. In my flat I have installed a Worcestor Bosch combi and it's fabulous! I lurve my power shower. What is best in a house? Only one bathroom, but extra toilet downstairs. I do not want to lose pressure when in the shower when someone flushes the toilet downstairs or decides to do the washing up. Replace the old boiler with a combi and free up space in a fitted cupboard upstairs where the tank is located. Or move tank to the loft as thats a better thing to do in a house? I've also read threads that talk about mega flow... but they seem to be for houses larger than what I'll be buying. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.
  7. Hallo, It's really easy to fit. I did mine myself (with partner). I ordered from: http://www.windowfilm.co.uk I live in a Victorian property and wanted some privacy. Very easy to fit. Takes two people. Just measure up your windows, they send you what you want and you fit. Easy peasey.
  8. Hallo, After a leak detection specialist cut a 1 x 6 foot hole in my lovely oak laid floor to access water pipes I now need to make as good as new. I've had a couple of people come and quote / estimate but wondered if any one could recommend someone who would be able to fix this and make it look as good as new. Thanks, Jasmina
  9. I've had the joy of a leaking water mains pipe which is leaking under the foundations of my home! Currently in the process of sorting but the Leak Detection Specialist had to cut though my lovely laid wooden floor to access the pipe. I now have a 1 foot x 6 foot space that needs relaying. The LDS took away the wood - not sure that was such a good idea - so I need someone who could work out what type of wood I have laid and then source and lay the wood. I'd rather avoid relaying an entire floor if possible. Not sure if I need a carpenter or a different kind of craftsman. My insurers need 2 x estimates and I'm very keen to get this fixed asap. Your recommendations are welcome. Thanks in advance.
  10. Thanks everyone! So many useful messages! Au' Lait - loving the picture you paint of your son and husband and useful info re the Strider and tight turning circle. Otta - You're so right about the Early Rider looking cool! Nunhead Mum - Thanks for reminding me of Decathalon. I think I need to go and try out a few and go from there. Thanks for the useful feedback!
  11. My son is nearly 23 months. What balance bike do you recommend? Likeabike, Puky, Isla or something else? I'd like a light one that is easy to step through / out of. A mate recommended a balance bike her boys uses with very fat / flat wheels. She got hers from ToysRus but they dont seem to do the same one.. Anyone seen something like this? Wheels were a bit like this but bike not battery powered: http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Toys-R-Us/Bikes-and-Rideons/Battery-Powered/The-Amazing-SpiderMan-6V-Motorbike(0092234)?searchPosition=4 Thanks in advance,
  12. Somewhere with great food & laid back comfortable vibe. Would value your ideas. Thanks,
  13. Plenty of people looking at this post but no one posting a reply. Please feel free to PM me instead. Thanks,
  14. Any recommendations would be gratefully received. Doesn't matter if not local. Just someone who is very good but doesn't cost half a house! Thanks.
  15. With an unexpected day off work I can spend it with my favourite little man. Any suggestions for toddler play groups this morning? Thanks in advance

    Thoughts...

Good idea NorthLondoner! DulwichGirl2 - useful info re the first ?90! I think I'm ditching the idea of selling and now researching my options in staying put. Mon-Fri let, foreign students and short lets all look like good options. Thanks everyone!

    Thoughts...

Thanks so much everyone for all your food for thought. Moving is sooo expensive, yet owning a property nearly outright is appealing, but the idea of downsizing is not. Living in ex council is also not appealing.. Maybe I've got too used to living in an Edwardian property in a tree lined Crescent.. Seems most support the idea of renting out to someone.. I've toyed with the idea of Monday to Friday as that would be ideal. I think i'll post an ad and see what comes back... Also like the idea of au pair / nanny - I'd not thought of that so thanks WofD. Penguin68 - Thanks! useful info.

    Thoughts...

Thanks lane lover and bunny19. Sadly my budget is not that healthy.. However, I have just had my place valued and the estate agent quoted the same price as to what I was quoted when the housing market was booming! But I do need to speak to my mortgage advisor as I'm not working full time any more, but do have fairly `healthy equity in my property. So thought if I moved somewhere nearish - brockley, sydenham, honar oak - i'd still benefit from living in London (I still need to go to work) and be able to rent out the smaller property to pay mortgage on the 2 bed... In theory! I'll put feelers out to mates to see about renting the room - good idea! I just had concerns as I've got a baby... Would anyone really want to live with a baby (that's not theirs)?

Would you rent out a room (as a single parent) or sell up and move somewhere smaller / elsewhere / with a much smaller mortgage and have the place to yourself? Or, if possible.. buy a small one bed to rent, then a small 2 bed to live in with baby. Thoughts..
  20. Your story made me laugh! Well done you! She needed to be told. x
