Hello

I am thinking of hiring the Scout's Hut on Bellenden Road for a Christmas shopping event, on the 17th of December, suggested hours of between 11am-5pm. I wanted to find out if there would be a large enough interest from local makers or producers to take a table, for which I would charge ?25. In particular looking for a wide range of quality textiles, jewellery, ceramics, papier mache, toys, preserves perhaps, basically anything produced by professional makers who have a range of items geared towards presents, stock-fillers etc.

I would provide you with a table and do all the publicity, but I feel this area is often lacking in Christmas events and it has great customer potential.

Please do give me any feedback and would love to hear from anyone who is interested. I am hoping to fill about 20 tables.

If I can get enough takers I can get the publicity ball rolling and really make it a fun event!

Many thanks

Kate

I'd certainly be interested as a shopper.

Just one thought though - is it maybe a little too close to Christmas. I find I don't want to risk the hand made (by someone else's hand) with so little time to shop if it's all tat. I'm quite sure it wouldn't be, but you get my point. Most of the open studios etc I go to for Christmas presents are quite a bit earlier, leaving me time to hit the high street if I still need to.

Could you do it the weekend before?

Hi Rosie

The 17th is the only day that the Scout's Hut is free as the earlier weekends are booked unfortunately. But felt the lateness of it might work as people often want to buy presents closer to Christmas.

But hope we can tempt you along if I can get enough makers!

    • Thanks all!  KateS - boulangerie Jade is a nice cafe, but they don't do fresh cream cakes. Their eclairs are filled with patisserie cream (a kind of custard), not fresh cream. Azalea- thanks and I've been to Bunhead Bakery (a Palestinian bakery) in Herne Hill a few times. There's a nice chocolate bun they do, which is amazing when then sauce is warmed up. But I haven't seen any fresh cream things there, only white icing. Maybe it's only on a certain day.  And the last time I checked, Ayres bakers in Nunhead don't do fresh cream things. These are the kind of fresh baked goods I'm thinking of....
    • Warning to parents using the playground in Dulwich Park. My daughter and her friends found a bag of ‘crunchy powder’ in the children’s playground this morning around 11ish. They thought it was ‘popping candy’ and all tried some before seen with it. Request to parents using the playground - if you see plastics bags with suspect looking contents or powder on the floor in the playground or park: pick it up and throw it in the bin. Don’t walk past and think someone else will deal with it. The next person to walk by might be a child who could pick it up not understanding what it could be. Hopefully our daughter and her friends will be ok and it’s a lucky escape. But please be aware in case anyone else’s child may have found it before them.
    • I’m looking for some ply sheets, ideally 9mm or 12mm. It doesn’t have to look good. As long as it’s not rotten it’ll be fine. I’d like bigger sheets, but I’m open to whatever anyone’s got. If you can help, drop me a DM.  Cheers
    • the only known name is from that poster in the window where it says to email [email protected]. I thought that website might shed some light on who is creating the posters I hope whoever was attacked is doing ok, but agree there is something very off/vigilante-ish about all of this
