wad of cash found in road! Is it yours?

Yesterday (Monday 25 Sept) I found some banknotes spread out over a small area on a quiet road in ED. No-one about! I picked them up and waited around for anyone to come looking for them. I approached a passer-by who seemed to be looking for something but he said he's lost a key. I waited a while longer but no-one. If you can tell me how much you lost, roughly where and when I would be happy to return it!

I once handed over to the police ?2K in cash that my then girlfriend had found on the street. No one claimed that money and after a month or so later on it was ours.

If it's what you'd consider to be a "substantial amount" I'd consider handing it in. It could have been quite innocently dropped by anyone, but if it's a larger amount that's been jettisoned by someone up to no good or in trouble then your actions could be helpful to the authorities.

Best to hand it in, otherwise those wanting to take a punt....for instance the passer by looking for his keys and anyone else in the area around that time could guess correctly where it is..... Wouldn't want you to lose out if it is incorrectly claimed, honesty should always pay back, but in this instance it might not if you don't hand it in to the police.....having said that....

    • Ah that was it.... When you realise politicians are only ever in it for themselves then everything starts to make sense.
    • Yup. Student politics. https://bright-green.org/2012/04/09/democracy-and-direct-action-an-interview-with-edinburgh-universitys-new-student-president-james-mcash/
    • I wonder whether his political epiphany and renaissance will stretch to him using his real name - James Ashworth-McLintock - rather than the more proletarian 'McAsh'. To my mind, the only people who should have self-bestowed mononyms are very talented Brazilian footballers - Pele, Kaka, Ronaldinho - very talented female pop icons - Madonna, Shakira, Sonia - or Russian revolutionaries - Lenin, Stalin, Trotsky. Sonia's greatest hits compilation, 'Greatest Hits', is out now on vinyl & CD through PWL Recordings.
    • Probably more helpful to ask simply whether McCash was affiliated with the Greens before becoming a Labour councillor. Trying to explain your thought process and unravel your fevered imagination (particularly when it comes to local politica) is the kind of thing that might require several years of psychoanalysis.
