Hi,

I'm currently studying GCSE ICT and one of our pieces of coursework involves designing and creating a game for children of ages 7-10 years that educates them on internet safety. Before designing my game, I am required to carry out research into what behaviour parents encourage children to adopt when they are using the internet (especially playing games),and what parent's general concerns are about their children and their safety online.It would be great if I could get feedback from a range of parents as this kind of research is held in high regard.

However, I understand that responding to this may require too much thought and is not convenient, so if you are unable to give a more detailed opinion, I would ask you to simply answer the following question;

Please rate these risks to a child's online safety in the order of your concern:

1. The computer could become infected with a virus

2. The child may become addicted to a game or other interaction and spend too much time online

3. The child may become involved in inapropriate relations with a stranger or older person

Thankyou,

Miranda Jarrett

I would say all three are equally important to me and my family. Whilst 2 and 3 have social implications for the individual child, 1 can have serious economic effects to the family at large.

My children are taught;

Do not give any personal details to anyone on the internet (eg., age, location etc)

Do not download any files without consulting a parent

Do not spend too much time online

In addition, I do drill my oldest child the old adage when discussing leaving comments on You Tube etc., If you can't say anything kind don't say anything at all.

    • The residents & families of the estate are getting parking fines,  out of the blue , the residents parking system waa changed from Southern to Sippi with cameras put up in the car park and people issued with fines entering the estate for more then 10 minutes , families can no longer pick up or drop off family due to a new 10 minute wait fine. Residents are appealing with Sippi and Southern as there was no letters to consult of a parking change,  new waiting times or fines, delivery drivers are getting fines everyday,  if you get a fine,  appeal it, there is no signage up to say about parking fines or waiting time
    • Threads that devolve like this should be moved to the Lounge, so the 'comedy' can continue in an appropriate vacuum.
    • How very dare you. Rest assured, if it were intended to be comedy, it would have been funny.
    • I hadn't looked at the actual posts on Instagram. That's sad, then. The shop opening hours are still shown at the top of the page. I  guess changing them wasn't uppermost in her mind under the circumstances.
