That's a part of the future I fear (kids still very small): having to find a balance between freedom and supervision. Highly informed freedom = education without scaremongering is the answer I guess. Any advice from those with bigger kids? What approach to education about these things seems to work (read: what does the child seem to listen to and accept depending on age)?

My two girls walk together to secondary school in the morning (a 5 min walk) but not always on the way back.

I've always told them about "stranger danger" but have seen this story about a white van for the past few weeks and it's a worry.

The video fits are pretty clear so let's hope they catch this person quick!

When I mentioned this to my daughter who walk with friends along East Dulwich Grove to Charter, she said that a couple of friends were approached a while ago by a man in a car who slowed down and asked them if they wanted to get in. They sensibly ran away. Not sure if this incident was reported but may be these things happen more often than we think?
Wow, scary. Kids have such fancy phones these days, it's only a matter of time before some super savvy child snaps their license plate and face. If you've resisted getting a mobile phone for your older children, might this actually be a reason to do so?

    • It was indeed in the vicinity of DKH. I live on the ED estate and I could tell it must be close by because of the noise. When I left my house this morning I found the culprits litter still in the middle of the st. It looked like they had lit a whole box on fire in the middle of the road. My cat jumped out of her skin. I’ll try and report it on Southwark website same as I have had to with other illegal use this week. Any other ideas for what we can do with the photos? Maybe one of the Southwark councillors. It’s outrageous and dangerous behaviour.
    • Had another great meal there…. those that haven’t tried it, give it a go.. have a special lunch menu as well so you can get a flavour of the food.
    • If you "cotton on" and read the council announcement, it clearly states "The library will be closed from 17 November until late June or early July 2026."  https://www.southwark.gov.uk/2025/dulwich-library-closing-refurbishment
    • I’ve been seeing Lisa at goose green clinic for energy work for a year now.  Lisa is kind, caring and hugely supportive. She is wonderfully masterful and trained as a reiki master for 20 plus years. Alongside other energy work.  My time spent with her is like therapy. An emotional safe space for deep conversations and reflection followed by relaxing and energising healing work.  each experience I’ve had has been different, the end result remains the same. Feel lighter, almost euphoric and almost float home. Definitely an experience not to be missed.  https://www.goosegreenclinic.net/therapies/healing-energy-work/
