My kids had numerous bikes stolen, two outside newsagents in LL. Mainly because they didn't lock them up. massive d locks are needed and kids need to be aware that if they don't lock the bike will be gone in an instant. It's a hard lesson to learn but we bought them cheap bikes off eBay till they really got the message.

I sympathise, happened to me more than once.

Also worth looking on Gumtree as some end up there.

When you get a replacement, register the frame number on immobilise.com, the police website. Apparently they do find quite a few one way or another but can't always reunite them with their owners.

When that happens they end up at (another place you could try) the police unclaimed property auctions.

    • No no and no.  Community activism (or even just caring) is NOT about keeping you head down, minding your business, and assuming there are Mensa-level experts making infallible decisions based on impeccable advice and in perfect sympathy and harmony with public sentiment. Especially when it's with our money and impacts green space, no matter how trivial it might seem. The council cuts down way too many trees and never replaces them, there's no urban canopy, trees on my road especially are trimmed to within an inch of their lives so people can send an invoice. Southwark has a full time tree removal person but no green regeneration person around street trees in particular.  It's like having 25 morgue workers in a hospital but no midwife.  Best gift you can give anyone for the future is to plant a tree today.

    • Is it just me or does it feel like the governments romours, hints and leaks about what Reeves may do in the budget is spooking the horses?  Reports in the media have hinted at  proposals to change council tax and stamp duty are causing the housing market to stall, the idea of changing the vat threshold is causing concern for small businesses and bank shares took.a hit as a tax hike is floated. Whilst nothing is concrete till budget day, surly the fall out from rumours is doing a lot of harm to the economy and anxiety for a lot of people.  It feels almost like we are being shown the worst case scenarios so when a bad one hits us we will all go, oh its not as bad as xyz would have been.  Whilst there are always pre budget rumours, it does feel a lot like its out if control this time.
