Is there anywhere, in or within relatively easy reach of ED, that provide a truly great Brunch?

Bloody Marys, Eggs Benedict, bacon sarnies, fresh fruit salads, quiet & relaxed jazz in the background, soft lighting - to help friends generally enter the New Year with style and assuage any post New Year's Eve hangover?

Yeh, Franklins' brunch is legendary :)

And (just mentioning it as New Year's Day is a Sunday), they do a damn good roast too (had it for the first time on Sunday and won't be going anywhere else in ED for Sunday roast in a hurry).

And their home made coffee ice cream - yum ....

Best have one before you set out really... they have Clamato juice in DKH Sainsburys so for a change try a Bloody Caesar which I discovered in Fredericton, New Brunswick and became very quickly addicted to.

yes sounds lovely ibilly, enjoy yourself up in Edinburgh won't you? lots of lovely new Gaelic signs at english taxpayers' expense.

Slainte :)-D

Back on topic, agree with Otta it sounds like Franklins is what you're looking for MM. Or perhaps you could ask at the Herne?

    • I booked Nico based on the reviews on here and wasn't disappointed. He called me back promptly, diagnosed what was wrong with a leak under our kitchen sink and a toilet making odd noises, turned up when he said he would and fixed both problems. Both jobs were more complicated than expected due to our house and plumbing being old, but he stayed until he was happy the jobs were done to a high standard and both problems were fixed. We have had so many issues in the past with things leaking water or malfunctioning as soon as a plumber leaves, so wouldn't hesitate to book him again and will definitely recommend him to anyone needing work done.
