Ridgley: it's good to see you posting again - get well soon.

This thread made me laugh too, especially the double irony when intellectual toffery challenged the value and insight of your original post but then couldn't handle the resulting discussion without resorting to personal insults and excommunication to the Lounge! :)

Oh dear, emboldened by (lucky) success in Libya, he's now barking on about sorting Somalia out. Good luck with that one.

First Blair (did good in Sierra Leone (or gunboat diplomacy as it's usally known), got lucky in Kosovo with a very ill thought out intervention there) got all hand of history, golden touch on us, now this.

Cameron's apparently barking on about 'direct threat to British interests'. It's all a wearisomely familiar path isn't it.

Why do we have to have these well-meaning idiots banging on about their 'committed', if 'vaguely practising' christian principles at the helm. They're dangerous I tell you.

    • There are planes going to more than one London airport. It's been discussed on here before, but I can't remember the exact details. Also if memory serves it depends on the prevailing wind exactly what route the planes take on a particular day, but I may be wrong there. Or maybe they vary the route so the same people don't get the noise each time? I moved here (also North Cross Road area) over thirty years ago and the plane noise has always been bad. I don't think it's got any worse, though it may have done. It has always started around 5am or a bit earlier ( on the days the planes take that route, I suppose?) Concord used to fly over around 5pm each day. That was excellent. It always seemed to be directly over my house, but due to the height of planes I guess many people think they are directly over their house! Triple glazing in my bedroom has helped, but not completely,  though it wasn't installed for that reason.
    • Morning All,  Looking for the above - anyone got one lurking around looking for a new home before I go and buy one new.  My project for the long winter nights! Thanks in advance.
