Never muck around with having six batsmen. The last time England tried to play Prior at six they lost games due to a weak batting lineup. The tail won't always wag, and the bowling won't always be, as Tuffers put it, "flans of the highest flan order".

Mind you, the question is, if Trott is injured who comes in. There's not a lot of test-level batting depth at the moment in the counties.

Broad is improving as a batsman and Bresnan will get confidence from his knock.

If you bring in another batsman for Trott (if injured) then do you leave Bresnan out? Or Tremlett? I would be tempted to go with the squad as is (i.e. play Tremlett and Bresnan) for one test and rethink it when Trott's recovered. Now Bresnan has a fivefer how can you leave him out?

I actually don't rate either highly, anyway, and I can't see either of them being long term holders of test places and will go the way of Sidebottom. Both are solid bowlers, but I really expect something better to some along soon. But, since he's in and has done nothing to be dropped, I'd retain Bresnan.

I'd still go for another batsman, if no other reason than to take a rare "2-0 up after two" opportunity to blood someone new. You'd better just hope they don't recall Bopara.

so... to stick to the point... If Trott is a no-show do you keep Tremlett AND Bresnan as previously suggested or drop Bresnan for a replacement batsman (after he got five) or drop Tremlett for same reason?

And who, if not Bopara, do you bring in? The only other name mentioned on TMS was James Hildreth of Somerset but feeling seemed to be (well GB's 'informed' opinion) he's not a Test batsman. As for others, my county knowledge is scant indeed so any suggestions?

Yes but that's what an urban slant gives you; Advance notice of intention? "You shoulda seen this coming" And intention to return? "I found it and I was looking after it 'til I could take it back".

There was a similar problem in the C21st urban update of Jerome K Jerome's 'Three Men On The Bummel' which involved mountain bikes racing from Currys in Peckham to Phone4U in Camberwell and finishing at a lite-bite in Croydon.

    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
    • interesting the police said "the car was in demand at the moment" what make/model is that?
    • Just be careful to know exactly what they cover and the limits. i use Many Pets and Medivet, as I think one of the vets is exceptionally good. Some of the NHV are, but I’ve had a couple I’ve not liked at all.  I need consistency and to feel that they actually care more about the animals than the money.
