Hi all

My son has just been started on neocate formula as he was previously diagnosed with reflux and colic but the gp has said it could actually be a cows milk protein allergy.. He is now on the new formula and no longer on stay down so I've noticed a lot more vomiting but seems to be sleeping better.. He still is getting acid coming up so I've kept up his reflux meds but stopped the colief..

Just wondering if anyone has been jn a similar situation and can share their experience please?

me...sorry, Strawbs, feels like I'm dogging your every post but does sound like our sons are v similar! We got a similar response from the specialist we've been seeing, although my son is on Nutramigen AA (similar - in fact he gave us the choice and this was just the one the chemist had in I think). We think it's helped ...he was def quite rashy before which is what prompted the doctor's decision. Still has eczema but less 'angry'looking after each feed - used to go bright red when he fed, and the screaming was awful. Reflux gradually improving - less screaming, slightly better sleeping (it's all relative!) - but yes v v sick. We're going for a barium test soon to check there's no stomach blockage as the specialist is a bit suprised at how sick he's still being but to be honest think it's a formality - is clearly healthy and putting on weight, I think it's going to be one of those things that we can alleviate a bit with meds but really it's growing out of it which will help. I was a bit worried about weaning etc - how/when to introduce dairy but the doc says we'll be advised when the time comes. and in truth am not convinced he def has an intolerance, but my understanding is that reflux babies can often cope better with nutramigen/neocate etc than standard formulas. I had already virtually stopped bfing when we were put on nutramigen but that was the clincher as couldn't see myself maintaining a strict milk protein-free diet - with a toddler too I find it hard enough to eat properly as it is most days! I do feel a bit sad about that as was so pleased to finally manage bfing after not being able to with my first, but at least this way I can delegate feeding and get some sleep!

my little one is almost 14 weeks and i can def say the reflux has got a lot better in the last 3 weeks or so. We are going to stick to the nutramigen as it seems to work for him. Good luck and maybe get to compare notes at one of the autumn babies meet ups soon.

No problem, I welcome any help and advice! Toby seems so much less irritated now he is in neocate and slept for 4 hours today - first time ever!!! BUT he is vomiting ALOT! Took him out for a walk today and had to pick him up out of pram today due to it coming out so rapidly.. I'm very torn but we are going to persist with the neocate for at least this week and monitor him.. It seems we need to choose between him sleeping or being sick and at the moment sleep is winning!

I'm not convinced he has an intolerance either as sometimes I think they do their best and grasp at straws.. I'm going to keep going and stick with the omeprazole that he is on fr his reflux but we have stopped the colief for now..

Are you coming to the actress on the 12th? If not fancy a coffee another day?

Hello, I don't often post on the forum but this topic is one I?ve had a lot of experience (lack of sleep/tears!) with.

I have 2 children both who have had protein intolerance, now 3 & 5.

My first finally went onto neocate at 12 weeks, after 5 weeks of no feeding and various hospital/doctors appointments. We finally saw a paediatric gastroenterologist at GOSH privately who diagnosed it, and 3 weeks to the day of swapping formulas - as per his info - she was a changed (normal!) baby.

We saw the signs in our second a lot earlier, and he too went onto Neocate.

Both of our children were weaned at normal times, but we were quite slow in introducing foods in case of other allergies. Both now are great kids - with a very wide diet and no allergies.

From my experience and from a lot of advice from our specialist we now feel ?reflux? in this instance is very much more of a stress for the parents than for the kids.

I?d be more than happy to get more in depth if you want to PM me. It was a very long and very stressful period for us!

Good luck

J

edited to say my first had reflux until well after she was 1 but was gaining weight and happy - I just had to take a cloth with me everywhere I went!

Please please please get a referral to see a specialist at Kings. My daughter was terribly ill after any ingestion of anything dairy and it took the GP many many 'diagnoses' and associated 'treatments/prescriptions' before we persuaded them to give us a referral. At which point, the specialist at Kings almost immediately confirmed exactly what it definitely was (not what it might or probably was) and we could then work from there with a treatment and a regular slot with the amazing dietician at Kings. At just before 2yrs old, she went for her Milk Challenge Day at Kings, and the allergy had passed, thank God.

Please, see a specialist. GP's are great at 'general' practitioning, but this from my experience, requires the knowledge that only a specialist can bring.

Good luck.

    • My understanding is the "free event" is 100% Gala, nothing to do with the council. Obviously Gala will still make money from the food & drink that they are trying to coerce punters into buying on their social media posts. Their costs will be negligible due to already having the infrastructure in place for Gala. So Gala are trying to appear community minded by providing this "free event", but the real goal is to set a precedent for a fourth day's festival - which surely no one could possibly object to?!? - in preparation for applying (again) for two three-day festivals spread over two weekends. It's only another two days, right, and the site & equipment is already there, so why would anyone object?!? More money for the council, much more money for Gala, win-win right? But yet another week of our park taken away from us, too, and another 18,000 people trampling & littering the park, and another week of disturbance for the native birds & wildlife...
    • Meson Don Felipe on The Cut was my go to place for many years. Though it's now many years since I was there. 10-15 minute walk from the Tate. If you go can you tell me what it's like nowadays?
    • Doubt you would have got much change out of £150.00 for battery and certainly having forked out for it, best to use your car. I recently sold  my car via webuyanycar.com - very pleasant experience & was roughly what I was expecting. Pop your bangers reg jnto their website to get an idea of price - they do send e mails once a fortnight/month just as an aid for you. Easy enough to delete - don’t even have to read valuation. They literally buy any car - if you can’t get it to them, they will charge you to get it there or recommend a co that will do it for you. Must say, mine was a 2014 reg and whilst a bit suspicious, paid extra to get money into my account as needed it for next car but was assured funds had I not gone down route I took would be in my account within 5 days. I now live in the country - every time I have been back to Dulwich and surrounding area, normally get a fine for driving at wrong time or parking at  wrong time so if I drive now, park in West or East Dulwich and do everything else by public transport and walking.  Were I still to be living in ED then before I left was pondering this very issue but since I have been back regularly for health reason I no longer drive but take the train and then buses, walk or Uber. Much cheaper than running a car and had I stayed, that would have been the course I would have taken. I don’t go out everyday, have an allotment or job to go to or family so in my case, would be cheaper not to have a car.  Was truely shocked   at the cost of second hand cars…..but where I now live only has a smattering of buses so no choice but to have wheels to get from A to B etc.
    • If you don't use the car often then suggest disconnect the battery between use by undoing the earth (negative / minus sign) cable from the battery and the battery will then last longer between use. Remember, central locking, alarm, clock, etc won't work with battery disconnected and wit ours I have to lock the doors with central locking before disconnecting battery as only have key on one door (leave bonnet open before locking doors). Hope this helps
