I have just found an unopened bottle of Scotch whisky which has been stored in a dark, dry place for quite a long time (must be a decade at least). Just had a bit of a google and apparently it should not have deteriorated over time:

'Unlike wine, whisky does not mature in the bottle. So even if you keep a 12 year old bottle for 100 years, it will always remain a 12 year old whisky. As long as the bottle is kept out of direct sunlight, the Scotch Whisky will neither improve nor deteriorate, even if it is opened.'

If someone would like it, I'll happily swap it for a bottle of dry, white wine such as Gavi.
