Worker
I've noticed that since the larger blue bins were introduced more houses and flats leave one or more of their bins on the footpath, even if they have sufficient space in their front garden. This is annoying on narrow parts of the footpath and doesn't look that flash. Is there anything that can be done (I've considered a kung-fu kick to each bin but that will only help my anger and will not help the aesthetics). the-e-dealer
I believe its an offence - Obstruction, however if you haven't got any room what can you do? I suspect our nice Local Coppers wouldn't do anything anyway. computedshorty
It is worth knowing that the bins belong to the Council, unless you have put your number or address on them there is nothing that can be done to a user, as it could be used by anybody, by placing your number or name shows that it is in the care of that user. the-e-dealer
Shorty - If you are seen placing the bin in an obstructing position you cant blame the Council. Worker
As pleasing as the thought of the cops staking out a misplaced bin and rushing the offender when he turns up is, I'd settle for a quiet word from the council at this stage. Or maybe the binmen could just keep any bins left permanently on the footpath? Or maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy. Lynne
What's the rule about people leaving their bins in the road to reserve their parking place?I do agree about bins on ther pavement, but many people have such small front gardens that they've now become full of binsLynne Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21347-bins-on-footpath/#findComment-513130 Share on other sites
computedshorty
If the Council Bin men are seen placing the bin in an obstructing position you cant blame the user.If I stumble over one and damage my Zimmer, can I dispose of it in the Blue bin? Then should I get into another bin and ask a passer by to wheel me home. Worker
Ha ha, make sure it's the brown bin for organic material (though you may be an organ donor in which case consider jumping in the blue recycling bin).I completely understand why people with little or no front garden are forced to leave their bins on the footpath. It's the people who just don't care who annoy me (this applies to most ED issues, not just bins).Anyway, I've already had a dodgy PM in response to my post so I'll stick to reading other grumpy people's thoughts from here on.Thanks all. the-e-dealer
The rule on the road is that they (bins) are causing an obstruction and should be confiscated. (Fact is anything - even a Parked Car is technically an obstruction on the Road) When Ever I get a chance I take my truck out and collect said bins. Lynne
Good for you. Someone in our street taped a message to the bins that she left in the road everyday saying how important it was to her that she had a parking place. And no, she wasn't disabled. I have been known to move them.Lynne Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21347-bins-on-footpath/#findComment-513240 Share on other sites
craigyboy71
My blue bin was left on the pavement outside by the council this morning but has not even been emptied! I've noticed it's the same all down Upland Road. What's going on?? the-e-dealer
The bin movers turned up but the vehicle didn't suggest you call Southwark. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/21347-bins-on-footpath/#findComment-513367 Share on other sites
