I like to repurpose older hardware to save it from the skip and combine parts to make the best pc's possible, giving computers a new life and preventing them going into landfill either here, or abroad after being stripped.

I can provide free software to securely wipe hard discs such as dban which will ensure ALL data is gone, unlike a windows reinstall or format.

Components made from 2012 onwards are far more power efficient and contain less harmful elements, leading to less environmental effects and are not yet prone to bitrot and still viable for use today, hence my focus on them.

Would you be able to save content from an harddisk.? My friend save the hard disk from a computer that was damage by water. Her flat was flooded unfortunately but she would like to have the picture in the hard disk...

Sadly, no, your friend's best bet is to look on Reddit, try the data hoarder sub and ask for recommendations for a data recovery firm - there are a lot of cowboys out there sadly. If she kept the hard drive in a sealed bag full of rice, that would help dry it out internally in the meantime.

There is a very good chance the photos are still OK, but recovery can be VERY expensive. Do suggest her to use at least two cloud backup services from now on both on mobile and desktop to avoid losing precious photos again.

    • Went to thee Viet place in LL some time ago and got charged £9 for a pot of tea  Hubby paid bill and did not notice that they had overcharged. Frequently go past the old Moulin restaurant- rarely see people in it. No indication whether they are providing meals as no menu outside (unless they have pit it up in last few days) Got impression that it was a wine bar only. Love Dulwich is usually busy between 12 - 2 pm when they have their lunch time specials  not been there in evening or weekends.
    • They're a supplement, usually made from whey, which are used after weight training. The theory is that weight training tears the muscle fibres (Feel The Burn, No Pain No Gain, etc), protein helps repair this and aid lean muscle growth. The faster you can get protein into your system, the better, so obviously liquids are absorbed faster than solids Beans, poached egg or peanut butter on toast, are pretty typical post training meals to achieve the same thing. They're much like a very thin milkshake or Slim fast, so nothing anabolic. I used them when I was training three or four times a week and the results were pretty good, if I do say so myself.   Cross-post with Ianr
    • On your last point jazzer, no. I've been reading around various aspects of them today.  The majority of them appear to be not much more than whey obtained from milk. That makes them about 75-80% protein. Have  a look at the H&B products.  They list all constituents. On the 18+ issue, OP, I suspect that what you noticed was probably at most a recommendation that they not be used by under-18s.  Even then, I only came across it on one website, by chance, when seeking for evidence of prohibitions:  https://ultimatesupsg.com/blogs/nutrition/whey-protein-should-individuals-under-the-age-of-18-take-whey-protein-to-build-muscle.
    • Simple question, why is a 16 year old taking protein powders? If they want to build up muscle, try using weights in the gym, doing it naturally.  Presumably  these powers are not natural products and more likely to be synthetic materials?
