free bike maintenance workshop with hands-on tuition Tues Feb 5th

This is a joint venture between Southwark Cyclists and the Lettsom Tenants and Residents Association (henceforth TRA). The TRA are providing the hall and we are providing the volunteers and the expertise. That is not meant to imply that the expertise and the voluntariness are separate. I can't attach pictures of the hall but they are on the website

The TRA hall is at 114 Vicarage Road Camberwell SE5 8PQ. It's run by Bruno who is a star of our summer-time Dr Bikes under Peckham Arch and outside Crol coffee shop on Quietway 1. The idea is to not just fix but empower :)So Bruno and friends will help you fix your bike and explain what you are doing and why. It's not a course. You bring the questions or the problems and they bring the helpfulness and knowledge.

They will be at the hall from 6.30-8.30pm on Tues Feb 5th which is a little later than the summer commuter Dr Bikes. Take up has been weather-dependent but keen. For more info PM me here or mail [email protected] (that is the slower way). Our website and slightly more info is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/events/bike-maintenance-workshop-with-tuition/

Southwark Cyclists is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign and campaigns for more, safer cycling in London. Everything we do is free and open to all. Bruno carries small parts but if you know your bike needs parts (like wheels) you will need to bring them with you.

Does anyone know if there are currently any bike maintenance courses available in Southwark? I realise what Sally Eva has posted about is not actually a course. However there don't seem to be any local courses scheduled by Cycle Confident who provided the excellent free cycle training sessions when I started cycling in London. I'd like to be able to competently repair a puncture and do other basic repairs before I set off to tour the globe (or even explore parts of SE England!)

    • I often walk past 'Kenro Press' and think it looks very sad and negleted. I wonder when it was last a viable business - tried googling it but nothing much came up Great to hear it is being brought back to life, perhaps a pity it will not be a new usefull retail premises. Lots of work needed so good luck with your renovation
    • No I don't disagree. I wasn't condoning drivers getting confused and the debate on whether refresher tests should be taken is a long one and is something probably for a Malumbu- thread!   I take it you never entered your details as someone agreeing with their sentiment but lots of Dulwich residents did and as part of that you get their email updates. So no, I have nothing to do with tje group beyond one of those two thousand dots on their website as a "member" is me!   Now, are you going to answer my questions or pretend you never saw them....p.s. we have seen this tactic before - happy to throw questions but not happy to answer some yourself...
    • I would suggest that anyone accidentally driving into the square is not paying due care and attention. If you disagree, I would be interested in what you consider a basic level of competence behind the wheel. Are you a member or a ‘subscriber’? Is there a difference. Does anyone know?  Who is alleging there has been pressure put on the emergency services (not you, you’re just neutrally posting ‘updates’ 😂). It is all very transparent and accountable isn’t it 🤣
