My Old Ford Escort has finally come to the end of its road.

It was 22 years old with 59,000 ish on the clock.

It still ran well but the Washer bottle had split and the washer pump packed up.

It would not meet the new Emissions criteria laid down by Mayor Sadiq Khan

planned to extend to the South Circular in April ?? (is that right)

Also parking has become so difficult. I'm only doing 600 miles a year mainly for shopping and trips to the dump.

I decided to scrap the car with a DVLA approved breaker. They collected the car and gave me ?84.00

I also got refunds from by Insurance,Tax and RAC. totalling over ?500+ a few beers and curries.

Didn't need to clear snow off of it this morning.

Please enjoy the much valued extra parking space until such time as CPZ is introduced

No - the ULEZ comes into force in the congestion zone in April, but it's not being extended to the South Circular until October 2021.

Makes sense Foxy. For a single, retired person living in East Dulwich and not leaving London you've helped improve air quality, reduced congestion, increased parking...... and significantly improved the cash take at Jaflong. Pretty much all services are at your doorstep.

For any other times, if you've not tried it and have a smartphone, Uber is a great and cheap substitute.

You could also try the by-the-minute hire cars, like Zipcar. There are a couple of others but I forgot their names. You can pick one up nearby and then drop it off elsewhere (but not all London boroughs allow this). I don't use them but am often a passenger in one (not having driven for about twenty years) and can vouch for their reliability. Also, you can collect at Heathrow, making a journey home as little as ?15 or thereabouts!

Fox don't know if your interested , but I've bought your car back from the breakers yard.they recond you conned them out of ?84

Anyway I've rewound the milage clock back to 59 miles fitted a catalytic converter for lower emissions washer pump wasn't knackerd it was full of beer. So if you would like to buy it back, say for ?6000 1 previous owner also a classic car full mot service history a bit vague .and even though its two different cars welded together its a bargain .yours del sorry ted .

I paid ?6,000 when I bought it from Hartwells in 1999

Had nothing but trouble at first. Even needed a new auto gearbox.

But has been a good car over the years,

I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
