  1. The century old rules for living in London have just been shot to pieces. Each to their own but the appeal of densely populated urban areas is surely diminishing. There are a million better places for all round quality of life. Especially if you have a young family. In my opinion.
  2. We moved to Lisbon, Portugal after 15 years in SE22. It costs 20 Euros to get residency for 5 years but hurry before the Brexit deadline on 31st Dec. Reasons for: - Same time zone for remote working - Massive lifestyle upgrade...cost of living is 15 to 20% less than London. - Easy access back to UK - Better weather. Lisbon is the sunniest capital in Europe with 2750 hrs of sunshine approx. - Better food. - Excellent schools. - Stable politics - outdoor living for most of the year. /endz
  3. This guy has had almost as many good reviews for this on here as gardener Fernando "he was so good with his hands" Pinto. He did mine last year and it was excellent. Oven Cleaner Stuart 07976 705 693
  4. Genuinely if people have 2 hours to spare to make ?10 through trading good luck to them.
  5. I always looked at it as a kind of semi-efficient food chain. I could get some value by selling my items on Ebay but the personal time vs ? return stats don't add up vs. the opportunity cost of using my time elsewhere. So giving it away free or near as to someone who had that time worked quite well. Even if they took the profit. The people have always been a lottery. I remember flogging one of those horizontal canvases of "east dulwich at night" from NCR market. I paid ?120 for it back in 2004. Sold it for like ?30 on here to this woman. After collecting it and loading her car she turned and yelled " yer shoulda sold that to me for more mate!" and drove off. Like it was some kind of game. Really funny.

  7. I think most of us would celebrate the renewed push for true gender equality in everything from the workplace, to sporting coverage and politics. So why do women so often insist they handover the tongs? Why do they so often retreat to the Harvey Jones kitchen to fuss over a salad whilst their "Dave" gets plaudits for "skillfully" destroying a once promising sausage? Is it something to do with cavemen? Girls, womanfolk, sisters! FFS dont play along with this outdated stereotype. Next time say "I'm gonna do it" . RISE. Yeah it's time. And before you all go mansplaining this one, I'd like to hear a female perspective on this. .

Over here in Portugal we reopened in phases from 4th May and fully by June 1st. As a result R has risen from < to just over 1 in specific areas (Lisbon) leading to the first spot lockdowns. The vast range in the UK R number you quote illustrates the data quality problems and the potential for political manipulation. From what I can see UK has stopped counting properly.
  10. Please stay on topic. Tomorrow will be messy. With lots of tabloid pub pics come Monday.

But the continued series of gaffs and blunders of this clownshow gov are embarrassing. Especially when viewed from abroad.

  13. Ok. I'm writing this from a country that delayed it's bars opening until the Tuesday after the long May weekend. But this is crazy. Why not Monday? I predict extra strain on emergency services, hospitals and the rest. This government is a %$$@*@ mess. Discuss?
  14. Come to Portugal in August/Sept. I've been in lockdown here for 3 months and it's been lovely. They are desperate for British tourists to come and an airbridge shortly is likely. Algarve resorts are at 30% capacity. The main tourist/UNESCO heritage spots are blissfully empty and flights aren't too bad. Glad I left south London tbh. Looks like a clown show over there.
  15. I was up in Scotland for a funeral a few years back. In a small town close to my heart. After taking a stroll down memory lane and to the harbour I walked back through the town and came to a park and football pitch with kids playing - probably under 10's. I stopped for a while and had flashbacks to my own childhood and of playing Saturday games like this on muddy pitches, quarter oranges at half time and unnecessary sprays of Deep Heat. Drifting off into my thoughts I was roused by two dads 50 yards away talking loudly - "Whaes that c%$t? Ah f?$kin dinnae ken - some Paedo eh?". I was a bit pissed off. But it didn't surprise me. Shame though eh?

You mean...gasp...somewhere on the Lane that sells simple, healthy food? Yeah that would be great as options are limited. But Signora, whilst not shouting loud about it does a brilliant job of that I find. Prices are reasonable too.
  18. RIP Saucy. It's gutting when you've put so much time, energy and capital into it. But you learn, dust yourself down and move on. It always seemed fairly busy when I passed by - which shows how tight margins are these days to make any eatery viable. It's no consolation but I guess the work they did to get the building back to modern standards after the neglect with the Curry Cabin lease will benefit the next leaseholder. Good luck to the team behind Saucy with their next endeavours.
  19. ^ that was a genuine typo but I rather like it. "Nobsworth"

I found this branch really handy for various offline services but yes, I agree, the staff in there could be massively unhelpful nobsworths . They'd spent years just chatting to local shop keepers and old ladies. Anything different - like say taking out ?10k in cash- was met with a sucking of teeth and somw kond of group conference behind the counter.

Jist joshin'. Plus think I have confused two distinct types here - proud centrist Dads and the Chipping Norton set. An ED dad is more Rayban than Oakley for sure. We recently left SE22 for warmer climes but if we were still around I'd probably go and yes, I'd prob take the kids too. As Jules-and-Boo says - not much wrong with some decent beer, music and food in your local park. And...this is Dulwich. It's what the area is about. Enjoy.
