  1. Agree. My Taxi is not as good an app as it's predecessor Hailo but is the best for black cabs. The new electric black cabs are great- feel quite luxurious. You can also prebook on My Taxi which I've always found reliable. Black cabs frequently faster than Uber if its rush hour as they can use the bus lanes. Or if you have kids and a buggy. Uber much cheaper for when it's quieter.

  4. Mitchells & Butlers - living proof as to how cynically running a pubco from spreadsheet, not investing in your staff training and maxing out margins with low quality microwaved food will eventually hit results as others "out customer service" you. There's a similar menu at The Pheonix to the Dog but you'll find some dishes exactly ?1.45 more expensive in DV, exploiting the Dogs monopoly location and well heeled clientele. Still the same shitty service there as the Phoenix though. I use the Plough because my young kids like it and the team there are decent enough. They also do a decent pint of Ghost Ship. But it's the same joyless experience with microwave pinging food and atmosphere. Cynical pub co management at it's worst. They've just fired their CEO and profits have fallen by half. So here's hoping it's the start of the end for M&B and that someone else buys the group.
  5. Yes they do.

It's so quick and easy to make it's a favourite in our house. SMBS sells great Thai basil if you need it. And this is the best recipe ever: https://thewoksoflife.com/2015/06/thai-basil-beef-pad-gra-prow/ Enjoy.
  7. Agree Louisa. My deepest condolences to the family and everyone deeply affected by this senseless death.
  8. The facts and statistics now available show Goldilocks is correct I'm afraid folks. And no amount of head in the sand will change that. I'm not overly sensitive but even I have noticed air quality change for the worse over the past 5 years. Especially on days with poor dispersion. There have sadly also been some deaths, some in young people attributed to London's worsening pollution problem. We had several open fires (using dried wood etc) but have stopped using them. Having kids has also changed our thinking. There are healthier places to raise a family. It's time to #stopthesmoke
  9. Genuine question - what kind of business grosses higher takings than a good, well loved restaurant on LL?
  10. Mr Liu - I'm seeing industrial light fittings and a contemperory refit. Really hoping the food improves to match it!
  11. Could it count as an asset of community value and go the ACV route?
  12. A neighbourhood institution and the site of many a decent meal for me - from early days / first flat in East Dulwich in 2004 ish to kids. Gutted. Hope Jamie pops up not too far away. Thanks to all at the Palmerston for everything. Will be in to say goodbye.

  14. Makes sense Foxy. For a single, retired person living in East Dulwich and not leaving London you've helped improve air quality, reduced congestion, increased parking...... and significantly improved the cash take at Jaflong. Pretty much all services are at your doorstep. For any other times, if you've not tried it and have a smartphone, Uber is a great and cheap substitute.
  15. It's obviously smart to lock your car. But on the rare occasion, usually when I've done a 14 hr day at work, am carrying 8 bags of shopping and 3 kids under 5 into the house I've forgotten. And the three times I've done this in the past 3 years or so (one this week) someone has gone in overnight for a rummage. There's never anything valuable taken as there's not much to take. My fault for being stupid. But it's interesting there's a near 100% chance someone will try your car door handle overnight in ED. Still plenty low level crime. /message ends
  16. Yep - sometimes it's worth revisiting a long standing staple - chefs come and go. One Thai I never went back to was Sema Thai (now Lux Thai?) - it was like British Airways Thai food. Again it may have improved... Mr Liu was at one point one of the best for well made bog standard Chinese. But its been really poor last few years.
  17. fishbiscuits Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Thai Corner isn't though!! Hmm. It's straight up Thai food without a hipster flourish but I disagree. It got very average for a number of years but I was pleasantly surprised to find they have raised their game and have had several recently as a result. Flavours are good and they deliver super fast via deliveroo.
  18. Funnily enough. Our virgin is down this evening. For 48 hrs. No broadband or tv (Dulwich Library area).
  19. Virgin are pretty poor. Keep in mind that they are basically not investing much into their cable service anymore because thanks to streaming services and digital TV it now has a finite shelf life. They're just milking the cash as it's in run off. That's why if you call them to quit and persist until the end of the call they will throw massive discounts your way e.g I asked to remove all TV services and landline and just keep the broadband and they ended up giving me a 70% discount and letting me keep the basic TV package (basically the ?100 TV XL package was discounted to about ?40 ppm)
  20. This glove is currently on a railing by the baby swings/ small slide in Dulwich Park playground.
  21. ?5 to ?10 tip for me is normal and etiquette.
  22. It was for a specific charity...but thanks anyway. Now sorted. Online was the way....
  23. Hi - I'm looking to buy a load of bulk food, dried beans, rice,in 25kg sacks etc. Anyone know Best nearest wholesale place for this? I have a business account... Thanks
  24. Question ..is the current deal on the table a soft or hard Brexit? Or a "fudge deal" ?
  25. Klaxon. Potentially useful shop in the village alert.
