  1. I know someone working there and word amongst all of the staff is it's being badly managed already. You'd think the executive at M&B would care enough about their brand and be smart on this long awaited flagship site. But no. I fear it's just another "unit shifter" on the Excel spreadsheet.....
  2. Stuck my head in last night about 6pm and had the strange sensation of being both pleased and disappointed to find it hasn?t changed much. Refurb summary: a lick of varnish plus a few gentleman?s club style chairs. This minor tart up aside, regulars will be pleased to find everything else untouched including the queue at the bar (it was mostly empty ) and the Dulwich village contingent who view this slightly characterless suburban experience as going ?down the pub?. I quite like it that way though and overall am very happy it has not been Clockhoused.
  3. Age Jeremy. The difference is that you're 36, Keano is 77 and harking back to the early 1970's.
  4. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We're opting for the Alfriston area which looks nice. Will report back. any other suggestions still welcome!
  5. Ok...here's mine 1. Laines 2. Fullers 3. Greene King 4. Antic 5. Youngs 6. M&B's reheated slop
  6. ^^ this is great
  7. Whilst noting some old timers want to hark back to the days of hard boiled eggs on the bar, please can the esteemed members of the forum rank their pub Co brands by quality of food offering? 1=best etc Contenders: M&B (eg Plough,Dog) Youngs (yacht club, the kids club on the hill) Fullers (Half Moon) Greene King (Bishop,The Actress, Rye etc) Antic (EDT) Laines (eg Great exhibition) Thanks.
  8. Hence the phrase "Clock housed". Eg. Has it been Clock housed? Nah...They've paid respect to its heritage... Etc etc
  9. Loving this thread people. Keep going....
  10. Would add that no review counts until Jah Lush, a man whose opinion is respected on such matters, has visited and passed judgement.
  11. Some of their beers are listed here: http://www.halfmoonhernehill.co.uk/drink
  12. Yeah...went this evening to eat. Didn't clock specific prices but they've all gone up a notch in line with other places. They've done a very good job of leaving the main front and side bars alone and preserving the feel but lifting it a a bit. The back bit which used to have the stage has been totally "clockhoused" with some faux yacht club clapboarding and vintage lighting. But I'll forgive them that as we used to play chinged up scaffolders at poker in there and it was a total shit hole. It has now been transformed into the main eating space with a named Head Chef called Mike Blizzard which is a f*&*ing brilliant name. The back garden is now all on trend concrete and rattan timber booths. Food was good but just delighted to have it back open and that they've not totally destroyed it.
  13. A decent refurb but near ?25 for rib eye and chips in a Fullers pub?? Not exactly a neighbourhood pub price point and trading near central London / Hawksmoor levels. Hope the Dog doesn't crank everything up a fiver when it reopens....it will though....
  14. Well remembered Steveo. All got a bit messy and surreal towards the end when the place got really busy but nobody was actually drinking (or eating). Anyone recall the night they ran out of all booze at 7pm?
  15. "A paradiso of unintentional comedy". That's no way to talk about Dulwich Fox.
  16. Fun fact: According to this, The Shard, one of Europe's tallest buildings was excavated and fully built in 3 years....that's less time than it has taken to refurbish a pub and sort out a listed wall / skittle alley in Dulwich Village. If this was a government project, heads would roll. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shard
  17. Hope they keep the strong smell of damp. Cant see that budging in a week without some serious Magic Tree to mask it.
  18. I've developed my first ever lung condition in the past month and been told it's a mild form of asthma. I've never had this before but it coincides with some awful air pollution readings recently in London. Can't understand why this isn't getting more media coverage. This post is being written from the Highlands where I can see hanging lichen on all of the trees....a sign of air purity. I've not had any asthma since being here either. Coincidence?
  19. Seabag. Xoco was not your classic white table cloth formulaic Bangaldeshi place. It was worse. If I say "slate" and "fine nozzled squirty sauce" that's all you need to know. But I know what you mean...casual dining style and clean tasting fresh food. Not too much to ask for really is it?
  20. In the Franklins quarter....Mick's new favourite mid town spot
  21. I happen to like the old Cheese Block. It's been discussed at length here before...and perhaps it's ripe for a hipster attack from the south side. But I know said owner a bit and he's actually a really nice chap who knows a LOT about cheese, just a bit shy by nature and personality. Can the Lane support two cheese shops though? Prepare for Cheese Wars....

  23. But yes...living off LL we're well and truly blessed. Easy to forget how much so until life takes you to visit a friend in say Swindon....or Calgary....
  24. Middle class "high fives"
  25. I can't help thinking social media is an establishment distraction to keep people engaged in mindless shit. Rather than causing too much trouble.
