  1. Yeah cool. Base interest rates back to 3.5-$% to give 5-6% mortgages is the immediate solution.
  2. I guess everyone's a property expert on this thread. They've already hit foreign buyers with a new CGT charge from 2015 - but as it's based on any value increases from that date it won't have much impact for another 5+ years. Jacking up interest rates is about the only way forward now.
  3. *Like*
  4. Two things I find odd: 1. He was born in Sept 1949 and so is exactly the same age as my dad. My Dad does not look anything like The Boss. 2. He's only 5 years younger than Keith Richards. But looks about 20 years younger yet with no visible "work" done.
  5. Agreed. It should be equally worrying for the landlord. Soundproofing I dont think is an option here. It will require taking down your ceiling, creating a false lowered ceiling or lifting up her floor. None of these are attractive options. In my case, in a converted Victorian block, I offered to pay half of any new flooring costs (within reason) to the owner above which included soundproofing and new solid timber floor. It would have cost me ?1500 but solved it. They were so taken aback with this offer that they did something simple but better. They agreed to always take their shoes off in the house and it pretty much solved it. They were reasonable peeps though.
  6. Hmmm. Just wondering if perhaps you're rent is still at a good price for that reason? Perhaps the previous tenant had similar issues? Or the landlord used to live in your flat and moved out because of it....not pleasant. Just be glad that you're not BUYING the flat. Its impossible to get a true view of neighbours before spending ?250k + and yet they can ruin everything. I'm with Straferjack and Jeremy. It might hurt but I'd move. I hear Forest Hill is the land of dreams!
  7. The sheer amount of BBC coverage this year has actually been quite confusing. I spent most of yesterday flicking between BBC 2,3 and 4, highlight shows, live bits but never quite hitting the spot. Then I realised that the BBC were running a special red button Connect service for Virgin Tivo customers that's basically a constant all day live feed from each stage. Brilliant!
  8. I'm with you. Why has nobody brought back jellied eels for example?
  9. Thanks Gill - I will send you some details. I posted this only yesterday and we've had a fantastic response with some very experienced, talented people replying so thank you all. We'll be looking through CV's and looking to start interviews in the next 1-2 weeks. Someone has correctly pointed out that part-time Dad's should also be made welcome - and indeed they are.... Thanks.

    Ask Admin

Dear Admin, Have we ever had any thoughts about a proper jobs section? Either advertising local jobs or for smaller london firms looking to tap into local East Dulwich talent? I don't feel it fits within the tradesmen cleaners section or the general classifieds (more item based) and could warrant a place of its own. Nor am I talking pyramid schemes, spam or make ???'s whilst at home junk. I'm thinking any jobs in local shops, bars or SME's or any central London firms looking for part time workers (of which there are lots in the happy nappy valley of SE22). I've struggled to find a suitable spot for mine and so just wanted to check where's best? Thank you in advance.
  11. Hi all, I figure there must be a lot of mums locally who would perhaps like to work part time for a small city firm. I live in East Dulwich and run a consulting firm that runs IT projects for insurance market (mainly Lloyd's of London). We've had great success with hiring part time mums in the past - it's a pool of untapped, considerable talent! We are now looking for someone to help us with general admin, liaising with our team and clients and with good attention to detail to provide us with 2 days cover per week (Thursday and Fridays). Specifically, we're looking for: - Education to degree standard, highly literate - Experience working within the city type environment - Good communication skills and great on the phone. - Neat, tidy and efficient with Word docs etc - Ability to work well with our existing team (and another pt mum who covers Mon-Wed) - Any experience working within project delivery environments or insurance industry a bonus (but not essential) - We're flexible around office time versus working from home for the right person If anyone is interested or has a friend who might fit our needs please drop me a note. Thanks.
