  2. Noman should have to stand for it. (Sorry in joke for ED property developers). Well done for raising / spotting.
  3. Scotland have been forced to wear their pink away kit v England in a few weeks. Track record in this strip is awful and I can't bring myself to go to Wembley but kind of have to.. We're doomed....
  4. This is very common with builders particularly. My theory is basic economics -that demand is mostly always greater than supply and so they're free to pick the easiest jobs with the highest margin. Also, the best builders don't have trouble finding work...they're always over subscribed and having an introducer or architect can help get to them. All of this means that the guys who come round and quote eagerly or cheaply can often be the poor ones and the whole process comes down to luck. I would try talking to a design or architect firm for recommendations and also be prepared to look just outside in Kent where prices can be cheaper but they're still prepared to drive into London each day.
  5. Things that have happened / been achieved since the Dog shut for refurbishment: - a whole police station was knocked down, site cleared and a new school built successfully on time/budget Any others?
  6. I think it is telling that he chose to go in a thread about side extensions
  7. People going there for a roast and getting disappointed. It's a Youngs pub. I'd take it over M&B any day. But its never going to win the "beat roast" thread. The main menu fare is passable nothing more. HOWEVER THE BURGERS I HAD WERE BRILLIANT. The draft beer selection is good. Strangely for its location and age the place still lacks any definable character after several sterile refurbs. But functionally it works and that's what you want when you have young kids.

Perfectly said. They're not retail professionals...your logic is also sound Sue but sometimes in life you just have to go with the flow. Esp. when only a quid is involved.

  10. In had one of the best burgers I've ever had today. And it wasn't in a perfectly recreated approximation of a lower east side diner staffed with tatt-beards. Or with some bore banging on about how they've steam finished the patty. It was at...The Dulwich Woodhouse of all places and was topped with pulled pork and green chilli. Brioche bun etc. I know the woodhouse has come in for some stick since it was sterilised years back...but the latest refurb / layout works really well for all. They've created a more adult space up back . A sprawling lower conservatory area for families with kids. And outdoors features a burger shack dorectly linked to the main kitchen. Good IPAs and beers and they made a stellar effort for the kids today with Halloween stuff. And the food arrived hot and on time? And really...really..good beard-bore free burgers.
  11. It's you mate. Nobody is saying the baker has broken the law. But IMO use of the term gyppo is derogatory...and shows a lack of respect and decency whatever the context.
  12. I'm scared.
  13. "Southern Italy won't want 100,000 young people returning and added to their horrific youth unemployment because the UK is put through the wringer by some unelected alcoholic in Luxemburg who thinks we are traitors." This is great.
  14. See twitter images on thread page 5 - local bakery "of the people" revealed as having possible strong views at odds with liberal East Dulwich: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1735305 Followed by a troll.
  15. Nice trolling from Pop9770. Said bake is entitled to their views, however un-PC, its a free country. But it's hardly going to win business on "liberal" Lordship Lane. Move the biz to Clacton-on-Sea perhaps?
  16. I agree with your gut feel there Loz. Its ay too early to call impact either way. But two things for Joe public I'm fairly clear on: - the pound is unlikely to get back to old levels vs USD for a good few years unless we get a temporary repreive from shock Trump win. Holidays will be expensive for a while yet. - Your house/flat in London that made you feel rich was already over inflated and in bubble territory. It's market price is much more likely to fall in real terms over the next 3-5 years. If that matters to you sell now when prices are still high if you can or wait 5 years min. Material price rises will kick in next year. That surely has to mean inflation and interest rate rises=housing market suppressed. But perhaps better overall conditions for savers after the pain passes. This will be a long haul now...perhaps another new ten year cycle...very depressing.
  17. Could this be Louisas favourite bakery for the "man on the street" ?!
  18. And drink all the booze. Ambassador....you spoil us!
  19. Ah Seabag. I think if it is business then definitely a suit (navy or grey best bets) and (polished!) black shoes. To be clear, modern business attire does not dictate a tie any more (check out VC and Private Equity guys, bankers etc) but for a non corporate embassy do its a chance to show some character... you can wear a brighter tie and possibly accessorise with a pocket square. Or go open necked shirt but make sure it has a crisp collar with some depth which stands up a bit (not a cutaway type designs for a tie knot. You want to look like you intended to go without a tie not like you just took it off on the bus. One thing though - nothing worse than a man who never wears a suit squeezed into one if it is dragged out the wardrobe and leaves you looking/feeling uncomfortable. So wear something inc shoes you feel at ease in if you can. If you don't have a suit at home that you like, it may be time to go out and invest in a suit that fits you. You get plenty good made to measure type options now from places like asuitthatfits.com for ?300 or so. If you're luckier than me you'll have a body shape that lends itself to "off the peg" in which case you can buy cheaper than that from the likes of M&S and get it altered by a tailor. You can also make an old suit look better with a dry clean and buy a crisp new shirt (in white) with the right sleeve lengths (0.5 inch showing at the cuff or less). Try Lewins in the City ( www.tmlewin.co.uk) for a decent but cheap option. Off the peg is also your best option if the do is in a few weeks and you don't have time to wait for m2m. I know a great alterations shop in the bowels of Soho who will sort you out if needed and they take 2 days max to turn stuff around. If so PM me. All that said don't streets too much about it. Embassy do's are great. Only been to one but usually plenty booze doing the rounds. Enjoy. Ferrero Rocher sir?
  20. That's sad to hear re. Late Knights but makes a visit to their still trading Beer Rebellion pubs in Peckham & Gipsy hill a must for me if it helps them out. Back to the outdoor bar - definitely a positive addition. But give people too much choice and it takes longer for them to order and longer for bar staff to locate the cans. The choice they currently have is already much more than most pubs in the area and if people want to get fussy about it ...go to the pub instead! I reckon all it needs is 3 or 4 choices max. Perhaps a regular golden IPA, something dark plus a bog standard mass produced lager. A choice of three priced to the nearest ? and perhaps contactless payment would help it tick nicely.
  21. What happened to the Late Knights thing? Missed their beers on Saturday....also the outdoor bar is a welcome improvement but still a long queue that could be alleviated by simplifying the selection and a sign before the tent with the options? 300 people pausing to work out which of the ten craft beer cans they want doesn't really work too well. Great to see a win though!
  22. New Orleans direct? That route ended way back in the late 1990's. Used to have to go via Houston or Atlanta... Good tips...thanks.

Unlike Davidson, who I suspect knew > nothing about the Jamaican people, but just liked > taking the piss out of them. It's an unfair > comparison. Not a fair direct comparison. But whilst you could say LH got a pass on the basis of colour...he def didn't endear himself to a certain portion of the black community. And I respect their right to feel like that. Perhaps most telling is that he has long since dropped that material.
  24. Lolz Henry. Cordelia - interesting...I wish that was my experience. I have let quite a few Amex companion vouchers expire because I can't use the feckers which defeats the whole point of the loyalty scheme and has left me crushed and disillusioned as a customer. I find that short haul domestic (e.g LGW > Glasgow) no props and also high frequency routes like LHR > JFK but anything else at remotely convenient times? Really difficult. And the amount of Avios you need since the BA - Iberia merger has increased. Tier points to even hit Bronze status too - crap deal. I'm just pissed because I lost my Silver status and can't use the lounges anymore...
  25. Easyjet wins this one hands down. Don't even try the Ryanair mobile site....horrible UX in more ways than Ita worth writing about on here. BA is still ok-ish but they've screwed it up a bit with recent back end systems upgrades and a weirdly unhelpful flight finder for air miles seats which are still rarer than hens teeth.
