BLW novice queries

Recommended Posts

I've just started to introduce Lady Lex (6m) to solids. I did purees with Seb, really cannot be arsed this time round.

Lex is very interested in food, and has sat with us all for mealtimes for ages. She tries to nab her brother's food, and he likes to share. Aw.

Anyway. Very often, she will drop food onto the floor/her lap. Is the idea to continue to offer food as a replacement for the dropped stuff? She isn't chucking food around because she'a finished/bored, its mainly because she hasn't got a brilliant pincer grip yet. Bless her. She can hold things in her fist quite well though. I digress.

I know it will be a while before she is really 'eating', and thats fine- she's got to 24lb on breastmilk alone, so I don't think she's lacking in anything, and I am determined to be more

Laid back about solids this time round, too.

Any other top BLW tips gratefully recieved!

Thanks, forum!

I kind of did a half-arsed version of BLW with mine. At first just gave him things like fingers of toast, rice cakes, babybels, pieces of fruit to hold and suck on, and then sat with the bowl of mush and spoon fed him some as he experimented. Things I found really worked in the early stages were: toast, baby biscuits, well-cooked sticks of carrot, thumb sized pieces of cooked chicken, sticks of cucumber

I would just start with something very simple like a piece of cucumber, all they really to do is get the food into their mouths. How much actually goes in is anyone's guess, but breastmilk or forumla is meant to be the main source of nutrition for the next little while anyway, so with BLW, guess you can't really expect much in the beginning.

Good luck with it! I hope you have an easily cleanable floor :)

Miss M and I have been blw-ing for 6 weeks now.

A few observations

-just 3/4 bits of food offered at a time, otherwise it all gets swiped or dropped

-a couple of muslins on the floor either side of the high chair mean a lot more dropped food can be reoffered (but my floors are scrupulous! Ahem)

-veg cooked a bit al dente mean they can be re offered a couple of times, otherwise they just get pulped

-after a bit its easy to tell the difference between "dropping" and "I've finished"

I'm loving it I have say. Today she learnt to tip her cup up, so that water comes out the spout. Yay!

Hi Ruth - in answer to your question, I would say yes, just keep putting bits and bobs on her tray if she has dropped everything thing else. I don't bother to pick of from the floor until the end, that way you only get down on your hands and knees once! Best tip for BLW, is try to kind of ignore them, so long as they have some things on their tray to be getting on with.

    • I have emailed [email protected] with a series of questions about the event including asking how many complaints were made to them and Gala, and how many times the readings went over the limit of decibels allowed, as well as asking about if they are satisfied with the state of the park afterwards and how much money will go directly to the park.  I asked quite a few pertinent and important questions.  Given the replies I think we shall have more ammunition to stop this next year.  However, if replies are refused or not answered in enough detail, a FOI shall be fired off and the responses to that shall be even more ammunition as it would have taken an FOI to acquire it.  Either way shall keep you informed.  If all of you who didn't turn up to meetings this year, turn up and join the rest of us next year, with all the information about how Events and Gala went against their word on what would happen, we may just stop this. Look, I can dream, ok?
