Stitch 'n Bitch

The Stitch 'n Bitch Handbook covers every aspect of knitting and the knitting-together lifestyle: the how-to, the when-to, the what-to and why-to. Writing with wit and attitude, Debbie Stoller explains why young women are taking up knitting in droves and covers everything you need to know to get your knit on - from the tools of the trade to casting on and binding off to getting fancy - all with step-by-step illustrated techniques. Then it's time to pick up the sticks: at the heart of this book are forty stylish patterns that are as hip to wear as they are to knit, as good for beginners as they are for purly pros.

The Happy Hooker

Debbie does crochet! Debbie Stoller, the "knitting superstar", has been leading an entire movement of hip young knitters with her New York Times bestseller Stitch 'n Bitch and it's follow up Stitch 'n Bitch Nation. But guess what? For every one knitter in the world there are three crocheters - which translates into millions of hip and crafty crocheter's ready to be happy hookers with stitch 'n bitch attitude. Written in cheeky chick style, this heavily illustrated book - featuring four-colour photographs and instructional illustrations throughout - is chock full of instruction, inspiration, and to-die-for designs, from a fishnet skullcap to a lacy evening wrap. For knitters and new crocheter's exploring the hook comes the primer, a discussion of tools, what the gauges mean, plus basic techniques and stitch patterns - including the chain stitch, picot, flowers, filet crochet, changing yarns, and finishing. 40 fabulous funky projects - and no, there are no grandma's doilies!

    • Hi, does anyone have their up to date number please?
    • I imagine Franco Manca's business dropped off quite a bit when Yard Sale opened (though isn't Yard Sale delivery only?) But in any case, both of those are chains.
    • Thanks. I'll call them shortly as I could get there without the car.  That's good of Sainsburys! We've done the apple pie and tart thing, an ongoing muesli thing and the coleslaw thing - just not sure what effect all the sugars are having on our digestive tracts.  If we were in Somerset and had a press, I'd consider it. Can't be that diffcult, can it?
    • One time Sainsbury's delivered 6 bags of apples instead of 6 single apples which I couldn't possibly get through. I phoned Pecan in Peckham to ask if they would accept them despite their website stating no fresh foods. I must have phoned at just the right time as they were happy to accept them. Sainsburys gave me a refund so the donation was courtesy of them. Or you could experiment with all kinds of apple recipes and write a blog about it
