Best vegetarian restaurant in London- recommendations please!

Recommended Posts

Vanilla Black Nr Chancery Lane is

nice for a celebration or Carnavale on Whitecross St in the City for a less formal setting. Otherwise The Gate in Hammersmith. There are quite a lot of posh Micelin places with veggie tasting menus now but obv depends on howuch you want to spend!

I'd recommend The Gate too, particularly for a special birthday.

Rasa W1 in Derring St is no longer exclusivley veggie, and for a slightly posher feel the one on Charlotte Street might be better (it used to be fish and veggie, but I haven't been for a while). If you don't need exclusively veggie, then Tas EV near Southwark tube does great food and goes down well with veggies and carnivores alike, plus they will adapt for things like wheat allergies. And although it's probably not special enough for a birthday, Mildreds in Soho does good exclusively veggie food too.

Thanks so much to all of you :-). I think if it wasn't for the distance I'd definitely go for The Gate (my Mum lives in Hackney). It's still a massive posibility but there's one I've found on the net called Manna in Primrose Hill. Has anyone ever been here before?

I agree, definitely worth the trip from London to eat at Terre a Terre.

Can't believe Manna in Primrose Hill is still going, I'm sure I used to go there in the eighties :-$

Went to Mildreds last night and tbh wouldn't recommend it for a 60th - mainly because you cannot book a table, so have to take pot luck, and although there is no pressure to eat up and go you cannot help but be aware of the bar that is full of people waiting for a table. Finally the acoustics are not great so once it gets full up it can be quite hard to hear the other people in your party. The food itself is fine but I don't think the restaurant itself is up to a 'special' meal.

I live just around the corner & walk past every day, & I'm still not entirely sure what it's meant to be. For that reason, I'm not surprised if it often gets overlooked by passersby. Prior to all of this, it was Oriental Star - a wonderful Chinese takeout run by lovely people, & we were genuinely sad to see it go. It took a long time to find anything in this area that came close, & honestly, I still don't think we quite have.
