  1. Peckham Plex is great if you want to see a mainsteam film but it doesn't offer 'Event' cinema - such as screenings of the NT, ROH etc. I go to whichever is showing the film I want to see at a time that is convenient for me.
  2. I love making currys and hate making a Sunday roast - surely each to their own!

Just to warn you that I was asked for photo identity when I went to collect my card.
  5. I did feel that Dave and Sam would be quite nice to go out for a drink with - something that I certainly wouldn't say about Tony and Cherie (who would no doubt not pay their round either) - but Prime Minister material???
  6. Thanks for reminding me Robert Poste's child. Decade started being inspired by Olga Korbut and ended mourning Sid Vicious - amazing how much one changes at that age.
  7. A friend's owned a corner shop which gave money back on empty bottles, so she used to pass the bottles from the back yard over the wall to us and we'd go and collect money on bottles that had already been redeemed - then we spend it all on sweets from that shop anyway so I guess it was a redistribution rather than an actual theft.
  8. What seems so sad and ironic is that actually Spain, France and Italy have shown that it's easier to preserve regional and local identity and prosperity within the EU. Small town Italy (at least Central and Southern Italy) is very introverted - you're a foreigner if you are from a different town let alone a different region or country! The EU matters very little to them - their governance is firstly, secondly and thirdly local - but then prosperity isn't an expression that can be used in those areas outside of distinctly tourist areas.

Oh yes - my 79 step-mother who lives in Torbay and who voted remain (as did all of her friends who range in age from 60-103!) cannot talk to her 50 year old son who voted to leave. I think in some ways it's worse for her and for other remainers who are in areas that strongly to leave.
  10. I've been in touch with the Everyone Active HO via their website and have been very impressed at how quickly I've had a response - especially when compared to Fusion.
  11. I've been away for four years - how wonderful to see the same people are making the same arguments - just about other shops. The last thread I managed to finish was the wonderfully entertaining Iceland one....... Louisa - do you create a new post about daffodils every spring or did you resurrect the 2011 or 2012 thread?
  12. I am also really saddened by it being Rolf - I expect Queenies portrait has been surruptiously removed and put in a dark place until the outcome.
  13. I think with Body Blast, Body Combat and the like the gym instructors have to teach certain routines and have no flexibility and have to go on courses to update to the latest versions. This can be very expensive (or I've been told) so many instructors just keep on teaching the last version they are actually entitled to teach. Not very satisfactory I agree.
  14. I sadly miss lots of things that at the time I didn't really appreciate. Moving away has really made me realise how lucky I was. I now have the sea nearby, a more relaxed way of life, a less competitive outlook - but if I could afford it I'd move back in a flash.

    BBC3 Axed

Dancing in the Blitz was excellent. Also looking forward to seeing Margot Fonteyn dancing in Sleeping Beauty recorded in 1959 tonight. I appreciate not everyone's taste, but preferable (IMO) to live athletics, repeats of Doctor Who or EastEnders.

    BBC3 Axed

Also glad it's BBC3 not BBC4, however there was a suggestion that BBC2 and BBC4 should merge and be a full time serious channel, no 7.00pm start and no cookery programmes, which I did think might be a good solution. More Danny Baker please....
  17. Excellent - look forward to its return.
  18. Angels & Gypsies is fantastic but not sure if it fits the 'traditional' bill. Not sure if Number 22 in Herne Hill is open again (I know it closed for repairations), but if it is then that is more the trad tapas bar. Wouldn't recommend Barcelona.

    Salamander

OK - maybe not quite The Bridge - but I thought this started off with a good opening episode - a bit old-fashioned maybe but promising. Did anyone else see it?

    The Bridge

The Americans remade The Bridge with a female American detective and a male Mexican one - it worked quite well but not as good as the original I thought, and the second series was even better (I wonder if the Americans will remake this one too). Apparently a third series is being made so we'll find out exactly what has happened re Martin and Jens.
  21. I have a friend who is going to Stanstead via Victoria coach station and wants to spend some hours in the Victoria area rather than in Stanstead airport. Does anyone know of any late opening bars or restaurants where she can spend a few hours before making her way towards the airport?
  22. Left ED over 18th months ago and still occasionally visit - that's both the forum and the area. I'll certainly still post about particular bug bears or favourites and as I do come and see friends it is good to know where to eat and what to do when I am here - although some of my friends seem to find it slightly annoying that I know more about the area when I am many miles away than they do when they still live here.
  23. Yet another Shingo at Kuki fan. I have never had so many compliments about my hair cuts as I have since I've been going there. ?40 for the standard of cut is extremely reasonable.
  24. Tf any gym catered for the January rush then it would have over capacity for much of the rest of the year (try an early morning in November!) This isn't to detract from the other problems there, but it is a fact. Classes used to be good, however the organiser that I knew has long gone and I haven't been for ages. I would try a couple without joining (if that is still allowed) to see if you like the classes first. I think that you need to find a teacher that you gel with and that is not necessarily within the gyms remit - and this is especially important with yoga/pilates.
  25. Imo it would be best to stop it now - Brody, however annoying he may have been, was really the lynch pin. On the other hand perhaps a lot of people just had a dream that they saw him die...................... maybe something that they put in the water.............
