Agreed - Pulp Fiction probably tells you all you need to know about QT and his style of direction. Incidentally the QT section of Sin City was the only one I was able to keep my eyes open during.............

I don't eat meat but I kill wasps - they appear to be pretty pointless and can cause harm if they sting.

Thread of the Year - surely Iceland and M&S debate - dealing with (ad infinitum) subjects close to our collective hearts.

I don't claim proudly to be a vegetarian, I just say that I'd rather not eat meat thank you very much. This does not make me better, smarter or morally superior to anyone else. I really enjoyed Colin Spencer's "The Hererics Feast - The History of Vegetarianism" until the last chapter where the self-satisfied, self-righteous tone got right on my w*** - in fact it was almost enough to make me eat a bacon sarnie. Do what you feel is right for you and let everyone else get on with it.

When you go in the gate at the top of Coxes walk before crossing the bridge the woods to the right are Dulwich and the woods to your left are Sydenham - although it does get more complicated than that. If you follow the nature trail then you are in Sydenham woods. The London Wildlife Trust have volunteers there on Wednesdays and every other Sundays and they can give you more detailed information.

London Wildlife Trust who administer Sydenham Woods (but not Dulwich Woods) insist that dogs are on a lead, this is not popular with the majority of dogwalkers, but that is meant to be the rule. As a former volunteer in the woods, there have been issues with dog owners and the description of the women that the OP gives makes me think that he may have come across one of the serial offenders when letting dogs off the lead even when asked not to do so.

I could never decide if I loved or hated the Gowlett - had some of my best and some of my worst experiences there in the area. Once saw the then publican head-butt an errant punter outside the main doors, yet other times enjoyed great pizza and organic Austrian wine - hey ho..............

Dartmouth Arms Forest Hill: dreadful food and service!
Cassius replied to JaneB's topic in The Lounge
A couple of years ago friends and I had lovely Sunday lunches in the Dartmouth, so when we returned a few weeks ago we were amazed at how much it seemed to have gone downhill, both in terms of the food provided and the service offered. One of my friends and I had a veggie Sunday lunch and another had pork, whilst their children had the kids chicken lunch. We ordered a bottle of house red and soft drinks - the waiter said sarcatically 'Is that ALL????', well for all he knew there may have been 2 drivers amongst us. We then waited over 25 minutes for our rather disappointing lunch. My friends then shared a dessert and I asked specifically for my dessert wine to be served at the same time so I could enjoy it with them. The dessert came, my wine didn't and in the end I went up to the counter to ask for it to be told that they hadn't understood my request (WTF). It was such a shame as previously we had enjoyed it so much, but I won't be rushing back. -
Its a bit like catnip for humans - you know you shouldn't, you know it's not doing you any good, but just one more outrageous story.......... an online secret that I now know I share with others.

The point I was trying to make was that when I moved to ED it was a far more mixed area than it is now - there were of course families and young children but the bars, restaurants and cafes (although to be honest there weren't many of those) were not predominently childfriendly. I see nothing wrong with the mix there is now, but the area is not the same social mix now as it was when I chose to buy here, and therefore I did not chose to live in an area that is well know for its high density of families - it has become that over the years.

Sadly though, whether right or wrong it is the few badly behaved/badly parented children that stick out in the memory, not the ones who are well behaved and quiet.

The only thing that I really feel different about from a couple of decades ago is ease of getting home. The night bus no longer seems funny any more and taxis seem to be several times more expensive than they used to be.

The Killing series 3 starts on BBC4 next Saturday - hope it is better than series 2 which was a bit of a disappointment after series 1 (still good but not THAT good)

Over 50's covers an awful lot of bases. People just into their 50's who probably are still the same as they were in their 40's (albeit with a good party behind them instead of in front of them), up to much much older.

Married to a transsexual... can it work? On Radio 4
Cassius replied to Victoria C's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Bit late in the day to comment on this but just to say how great that things worked out for you so well - you are indeed blessed to have a partner/wife/whatever who has been able to come to terms with the real you and who must have made so many sacrifices and compromises to make it right. I sadly know of two other couples whose relationships broke down under the strain of the necessary (especially physical/sexual) changes in the relationship - you two are to be congratulated and I hope that things remain strong between you in the future. -
If you don't want to visit the doctor for anti-depressants and I fully understand your desire to avoid that, make sure that you are eating properly - I know you said that you were denying yourself for your children but tbh if you get ill you cannot help them. Make sure you get some fresh air and gentle exercise. Sorry if I sound patronising but like others I have been down there and it is not nice. Good luck.

No wonder the standard of maths is so low in this country.

Spice of Life on Cambridge Circus before it became a tourist trap, followed by Pollo to keep you going, then 'Alice in Wonderland' night somewhere south of TCR tube station - followed by falling asleep on the nightbus on the way home and finding yourself at Heathrow airport............... -

Not sure if it was detrimental to the health of the people using it or for the tree. I guess there was always the possibility that someone could get hurt and then feel that they deserved damages...............

James - why don't you contact the London Wildlife Trust who administer the woods. I don't think it is a winner 24/7 for the reasons raised above, but the woods have had special days for children (Teddy Bear Picnics and the like) so maybe something like this could be included on some weekends over the year.
