  1. In Torquay the move to WH Smiths worked very well.... before the PO was a large underused building (which became a Tesco - gulp) and the WH Smiths was too big for it's customer base. Now there are more customers for WH Smiths AND a fully fuctioning PO (with the same staff I believe) and I think there is some synergy between a stationers and a PO. Obviously LL doesn't have a WH Smiths - maybe it could move into the Police Station and kill two birds with one stone!
  2. Only just got around to this thread - classic EDF. OP - I hope that your bf is fully recovered by now and hope that this is a one-off. Ratty - you can take the person out of ED but you can't take ED out of the person!
  3. For a real 'pub' pub there is always the Hole in the Wall - bit rough and ready but can be a lot of fun.......... and very close to the station.
  4. The Gardens Cafe does have variable service as well as variable times - there are a couple of threads on the Forum that highlight this.
  5. Isn't there a big difference between getting drunk and having a fight (which I agree can and does happen anywhere) and three kids kicking a man to death for fun?
  6. Stories like this are just heartbreaking. Why is life so cheap?
  7. I'll get my coat!
  8. That's a shame - I'm booked for May and can't wait. I would have thought that most kids would have loved it - after all mummys are the most popular thing in the BM for young people and the casts of the dead would have been ghoulish in the same sort of way............... on the other hand the Horniman is local and a lot lot cheaper.

    In Bruges

Definitely echo PennyDreadful's recommendations of boat trip and bell tower, I would also add The Beguinage which is a small park surrounded by alms houses where nuns live (sorry hard to describe, but harder to forget). A suggestion would be to do the boat trip first to acclimatise yourself to the town and it's layout. Can't remember names of bars/restaurants but the beer is wonderful and there are so many that it's best just to wander around and find your own favourite. Bruges is just the right size to lose yourself in as you can never really get lost!
  10. Done the long quiz - 72% economic capital, 50% social and 100% cultural - now have to ally that to be traditional working class!
  11. Mmmm - downsized house so have smaller house but far more savings - know variety of people but ticked all boxes in social apart from Twitter/Facebook, listen to hip/hop and play video games, but I am traditional working class (even though I don't work!) The Beggars Opera anyone!

    Iain Banks

Sue - I was just about to post about this and how very very sad I am to hear this news. One of my favourite authors, I remember getting to work with about 30 pages of Walking on Glass to read and sitting on the loo until it was finished as I couldn't bear to leave it for 8 hours before I knew the ending. I hope he manages to fit in as much into the last few months of his life as he would like.
  13. Dexter - improves over the series. Mad Men - excellent. Breaking Bad - just wish I liked any of the characters. True Blood - occasionally a bit too daft but good fun. Game of Thrones - this is my no-no (personal taste) Bones - light entertainment but fun Elementary - is this out yet as a box set?
  14. Remember the words of Kurt 'Just because I'm paranoid don't mean they're not after me'
  15. Best thread I've read on here in ages - as others said good to see Louisa in such flow again and Goooaaaa DNKQ. Only thing I'd like to ban on public transport would be the eating of smelly food - makes me feel very very ill - but unlike some of us I have to accept that the world is not geared up just for my pleasure and enjoyment and sometimes I have to rub along with others even if I'd prefer not to. It seems ironic that the people claiming that so many behaviour patterns show selfishness are themselves too selfish to live and let live!
  16. Marmora Man Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What about the vicar - never trust a religious > nutter. Especially when he's a Time Traveller (Rory) in disguise. Also David Bradley (the newspaper man with a past) was the caretaker in the Harry Potter films.
  17. What about Andalucia in Southern Spain - advantage of the Euro (??), shortish and cheapish flight (direct and frequent to Malaga) and has amazing countryside, beautiful cities and some amazing heritage sights - the cities of Seville, Granada and Cordoba are the most well known, but Malaga has an old town too. Then there are some amazing tapas bars/sherry bars plus some good museums. And if you feel like blobbing out on the beach/by the pool then by the end of May that should be possible too.
  18. Hate hate hate RG (even though I loved The Office) Like Bill Bailey.
  19. I have always found the reception staff to be, on the whole, friendly and helpful, although I haven't been for a while. They are badly paid, work long hours, and have to take all the flak for when things go wrong further down the line - I've been guilty myself of getting fustrated with them when it's been the computer system, or the heating, or the class instructor not turning up, when NONE of those things are their fault.
  20. Many thanks for these ideas - I have ordered the Gillian Michaels DVD from Amazon where it got rave reviews, and I've also signed up for fitness blender - looking forward to attempting the 1000 calorie workouts.
  21. At the moment I am unable to manage to get to the gym on a regular basis, can anyone recommend a good exercise DVD. My idea of exercise perfection would be Theo at Fusion ............. so a good mixture of high impact to burn some calories, all over body conditioning and a feeling of satisfaction at the end. Any suggestions really welcome.
  22. Well just finding out about Zeret Kitchen means that this thread has validity to me. Although this subject has been done to death, there are always new forumites, always new restaurants and always new chefs/owners/menus - so it is worth revisiting every now and then.
  23. I think the Mag in the late 80's was pretty rough - wipe your feet on the way out rough.
  24. Totally heartbreaking - puts one's own problmes into perspective.
  25. Vinyl - mmm I think something by Garry Glitter (ah the days of innocence) CD - probably something that HMV were doing 3 for ?10 - Lou Reed's Transformer and 2 others Download - don't do
