  2. Istanbul is fantastic for a long weekend - lots to do - although avoid in the winter months as cold and wet. I'd love to return and stayed at a great little boutique hotel called Princess Zoe that had a fantastic central location. Italy - if you want to avoid too hot sun what about the Lakes - Como is beautiful and there is lots to do and the food is excellent and other towns in the area are much cheaper than Como itself. This year I am going to al-andulsia for a week in the spring and hopefully a driving holiday around Spain in September. enjoy whatever you do
  3. I'd also like to welcome you back Louisa - I always enjoy your posts even if I don't always agree with everything you say and thanks to you and DD for the lovely photos. I like Waitrose mainly because it is a nicer shopping experience than other supermarkets - the aisles tend to be wider and as already mentioned the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, however I am not sure of a suitable site in the area and am happy to go to Beckenham occasionally. M&S would not get my vote.
  4. That part of the woods is not run by Dulwich Estate but is managed by the London Wildlife Trust who I believe are aware of this man's presence. I am just glad we are not, so far, suffering the cold weather that we did last year.

Who did you see? He was called Dr Arif (I think) - really nice - he told me he was permanent and that he would be there on a regular basis from 12th December. Would be a shame if I had misunderstood.
  6. BBC had some good recipes - I am doing beetroot and orange soup, baby squash filled with spiced cous cous and panna cotta with fresh fruit. I quite like the fact that as a vegetarian I can more or less choose anything I want for Christmas lunch. Good luck with whatever you eventually make.
  7. I just felt sorry for the pig.
  8. No more phone consultations thank goodness and I had an appointment with a very nice new doctor. Bring back Dr Ives I say..................

  10. Edited to add - sorry StraferJack for not using quotation marks which I guess did affect the story - it was because the mother used such an extraordingary phrase that I remember it so well - it was after all quite a few years ago. And the pub was completely empty - we sat by the fire and it was about 11.00am - maybe we were in 'their spot'. I don't actually smoke because I don't wish to upset MY lungs.
  11. I remember my friend being told off for smoking (when it was legal) in the Rye by a couple of mummys as the smoke upset their little one's lungs - but they didn't consider moving to the non-smoking area at my suggestion.

Also agree - succinct and to the point.

  14. This isn't exactly an answer to your question, but if you are used to organising things why don't you think about doing some voluntary work in the area which might introduce you to other people. Charities/voluntary groups are always looking for well organised people who have time to help and then there could be committees to stand on etc. I have met some great people of all ages in this way.
  15. Middling in my opinion. Paella good and tasty but some of the tapas are a bit tired. Would rather go to Angels and Gypsies tbh.
  16. Blue and brown collected yesterday.

No but there ARE regulations about the mixture of food/non food outlets that are allowed and as the current shop is not a food outlet it is probable/possible that the council would be unwilling to alter the balance.
  19. Sue - that blue is not trivial - it is an assult on the senses so I'd personally like to thank you for bringing this matter up.
  20. 'Let Me Entertain You' by Robbie Williams - oh the shame. Sorry - not a band...............
  21. Brown bins & green bins successfully collected today although after watching Dispatches last night which criticised 'co-mingling' as a form of recycing collection with a high wastage rate...................
  22. Formerly The Castle. Had anyone been there since it's changed - any comments? Cheers
  23. The actual food bags are quite small - I don't eat meat but imagine that a decent sized chicken carcass would completely fill it up.
  24. Tuesday - blue bin emptied early morning, brown bin emptied mid afternoon.
  25. I don't know about the rest of Europe but in Italy there are large recycling bins around the town (such as there used to be on the corner of Peckham Rye) and people just carry their rubbish to these bins - they have bins for glass, cardboard/paper, plastics and household rubbish, also some have little bins for unwanted/used medicine bottles. In some towns people leave larger items behind the bins and this allows people to take anything they want - we left our old doors at the recyling area and they disappeared within hours.
