Classic lofts - looking for reviews please

As a neighbour of somebody who used Classic Lofts, my opinion of them is sadly pretty low (not my neighbours' fault).

Very poor communication was one problem.

But I believe the people concerned may have changed now, as this was some years back.

ETA: The neighbours who actually employed them were pleased with the work done :)

We just used Classic and finished before Xmas. We chose them in the end because they have been around here for a very long time and have lots of experience, the price was reasonable compared to others and they don't outsource the contract like some others. I've not used builders before and the end result is great. Sure we had a few smallish issues along the way but overall I would use them again and they defo seem to know their stuff when it comes to lofts. My advice is pay for a portaloo with a separate company to be put in your front garden before the scaffolding goes up especially if you have kids as you won't want all the builders and trades using your bathroom!!

We used Classic for a loft conversion in 2010 (we are West Dulwich). All seemed reasonably fine (normal snagging type issues but nothing major) until about two years ago when the roof to our loft conversion began to leak.

We have had a roofer up to look and the roof is covered in holes and water has started to come through - the roof timbers are getting wet and we need to repair the lead covering on the roof urgently.

The roofers who have had a look for us have explained that the lead used for the loft conversion roof is too thin - so the whole covering needs replacing with the proper grade of lead.

The sash timber windows they put in are now also rotting in places (we have repainted them a couple of times, so not from lack of maintenance).

**UPDATE*** Classic come round promptly and have agreed to re do our roof, which we are very pleased about. We have yet to discuss windows with them in any detail. But I am impressed by the speed of reply and no quibbling over replacing the lead on the roof.

We are going to contact Classic this week - they guaranteed the loft conversion for 10 years - to see what they say, and I will keep the forum updated on how they respond and whether they honour their guarantee.

    • Back to my earlier post about familiarity.  I was in Croydon this afternoon walking between the two main stations.  Didn't feel unsafe, but there were some 'interesting' characters on the street.  Not that any were bothered with me. Not a place I'd choose to go for a bit of a fun.  Although having said that West Croydon has some cracking restaurants and the wonderfully named Saints and Sinners bar, where I once went on a corporate do - not that I did many of these. Whoops just checked and it closed a few months ago. Back on track, I never went to the Castle as I felt it was a bit rough.  How wrong was I?  Only real pub left in the area.
    • Wow Sue! I was reading your post with interest as I’ve never really felt unsafe in London and I was born here. It was just your last paragraph that derailed me and totally changed the subject matter! So unnecessary.
    • What made you think it was lost?
    • I'm pretty sure I saw him today near the junction of Lordship Lane and Dulwich common standing by the crossing near the entrance to the woods. Wearing a black trench coat , black trousers and dark timberland style boots his clothes looked somewhat worn and he was looking pretty wild eyed..I was in a car going by and I noticed him standing by the kerb looking somewhat aggrivated. other women please be aware
