Local car park for learner driving

Does anyone know of anywhere locally to practice driving? Preferably somewhere deserted as the car does not have dual controls! The learner is taking professional driving lessons from a qualified instructor also but would like more time in the car. Any suggestions?

Sainsbury's car park out of hours is probably your best bet.

When I was learning I used to be taken by my instructor to practice my parking in Sainsbury's car park. Also, trying asking the professional instructor where is good to go.

Its really hard isnt it? we did a lot of manouevres on crescent wood road as it is so wide.

Car parks especially Supermarket Car parks are notoriously hazardous places to drive / learn to drive.

With people coming from all directions and people reversing, collisions are very common.

Also there may be many pedestrians including small children who may be difficult to see.

You may not be insured as you are on private land.

You will have to foot the bill for any damage to your car and third party's vehicle if you have an accident.

Actually my instructor also took me to sainsbury's for reversing into a parking space practice. They can make you do it in the test and it's REALLY narrow at Hither Green test centre!!!!!

People suggesting car parks are a good place to practice because their Driving Instructors took them there

are forgetting one major thing.

Driving School cars have Dual Control and the Instructor can overide the Learner.

Binary_star's car does not have Dual Control.

Sainsbury's on a Sunday evening sounds like a sensible suggestion to me - especially when it starts getting lighter in the evenings.

Yes, I second the recommendation for the car park at the top of Crystal Palace park (nearish to CP train station)

Also in Sydenham all around the Lawrie Park area is excellent - quiet roads with lots of other L plates moving at 5mph!!

I did most of my learning to drive in the Beckenham area as wide roads and quiet. I too have been taken to a supermarket car park to learn to park in restricted place. Was during the evening and we only spent about 10/15 mins there at any one time.
