ponderwoman Posted March 18, 2019 Share Posted March 18, 2019 Some time ago, I went to the accountants in North Cross Road for initial advice prior to employing them, They offered an initial 30 minute free consultaion. The advice given was wrong and despite me insisting it couldn't be correct they maintained it was. If I had followed their advice it would have cost me 10s of thousands. I confirmed with HMRC that I had the correct understanding of the situation- in which I had no liability at all for the suggested tax.They then charged me ?80 for the 'free' consultation. I did pay this at the time but demanded a refund after speaking to HMRC.I am still shocked that accountants, offering professional services, could be so inept. I had already gleaned much of what they needed to know from HMRC websites. I can't remember what their fee was going to be for completing the paperwork on their suggested route. Not insubstantial.I can only suppose the person I spoke to can no longer be employed by that company.
