Bumpkin
My son?s primary school has dropped all language lessons in year 5 & 6 to concentrate on Sats.. I?m keen to do an online / app based fun language course with him, prob Spanish, so that he goes to Secondary with at least some familiarity of a foreign language. Happy to pay for a good one. Does anyone have any recommendations? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/221177-foreign-language-advice-for-year-6-child/ Share on other sites
redjam
Duolingo is quite fun (and free). It encourages you to keep on a 'streak', so you do a short burst of learning each day. It's pretty basic but good for beginners and quite fun. bonaome
Yep - Duolingo is fantastic. It keeps a record of how many days in a row you have practiced - so you could reward that behaviour, which might be useful as an incentive - and it makes language learning a game.AFAIK a lot of local secondaries still start with French in yr 7. lolasid
This makes me so cross. It is statutory that they are taught a language. Concentrating on SATS IS NOT A HOLISTIC OR THE RIGHT WAY TO EDUCATE. Grrr. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/221177-foreign-language-advice-for-year-6-child/#findComment-1325564 Share on other sites
Norfolkvillas
Also pretty dismayed to hear they can decide to drop languages! We love the Mondly app which is free.
