Need a metal gate altered - welding job

After we had the front path tiled our front garden gate is now slightly too big and won?t open fully as it catches on the tiles. We?ve got round this by drilling a couple of extra holes and raising the gate a couple of inches on the hinges - but that means the gate can?t latch shut.

It?s been like that for many years but following the theft of plants from my front garden I?d quite like to be able to shut the gate properly -as if may deter a ?spur of the moment? plant thief if they have to open the gate!

Is it even possible to cut a couple of inches off a metal gate and then re-weld the bottom bar back on? If so, can anyone recommend someone who could do this?

    • I'd try the Dulwich Village or "North Dulwich Triangle" forums for more local knowledge but I don't think those areas compare to Abeville Road at all. It will be quite a different lifestyle.
    • Yes, Dulwich Village commands a premium and justifiably so given access to the City via London Bridge plus the top rate schools within walking distance.  The bus services are really good also - 37, 42 and P4. The P4 is useful for connecting to the Victoria line at Brixton. It's worthwhile waiting for the right property. I know of one which will be coming on the market in a few weeks - 4 bedrooms and south facing garden circa £2.5m.
    • This is an utterly foolish and alarmist statement, completely at odds with reality.
    • I realise this is highly unlikely, but if anyone has a colour laser printer in very good working order, I'd be delighted to take it off your hands!
