Hi,

Our son was offered a place at Dulwich Village Infants starting this September which we are really happy about.

We emailed the school to say we would need wrap around care but were told there?s a waiting list so he?d be unlikely to get a spot until possibly after Christmas. As two working parents wrap around care is essential, I just wondered if any parents have any recommendations for childminders that offer a drop off/pick up from the school?

Appreciate any advice or recommendations.

Thank you.

We were in the same position as you last year. We have a mothers help come for half an hour in the morning who then takes our son to school. He goes to JAM after school club which collects from DVIS, Judith Kerr, JAPS etc. I?m very happy with JAM - it?s not bright and shiny but the adults are warm and friendly and there?s a good mix of activities.

We had this problem at DVIS two years ago and started the term with two days after school club per week. Cobbled things together through a variety of sources (including a great girl we found on here to cover mornings) and took each extra day as it became available. By October half term we had the full five days.

Suzie who runs the after school club has told me that they?ve had exceptionally high demand this year so it might not be as quick as that for you but my point is that it does shift so worth getting yourself on the waiting list as well as exploring other options. It?s all a bit of a nightmare compared to the luxury (!) of year round nursery but things do seem to work out. Another option we explored was communicating with other parents in the same position and sharing the load. Good luck!

    • Like most children they go through food fads!  -the boy was into wraps and satay chicken before Christmas, but abandoned the wraps  over Christmas. Likes Chilli con carne providing there is minimal sauce.. The girl will eat a mild curry, but not cheese, milk or yoghurt. Both will eat pizza, shepherds' pie. roast dinners, sometimes burgers, rarely chips. Their mother batch cooks meals to put in freezer as the nearest supermarket (Asda) is 2- 3 miles down the road and not on a bus route - so they rarely have takeaways/ready meals or eat out.  They both eat fruit and veg daily and there is never a problem getting to eat these. Agree that The Plough can be hit and miss - a friend asked them to cater for a post funeral buffet and the food was terrible and was in short supply with some of the guests going hungry.  She made a complaint and asked for a refund - and after a wrangle got it.
