  1. I think the old Mother Goose on Upland Road might have space - now called Purple Jay I think. Mine went there years ago so can?t really recommend but worth a look. Little Jungle and My Favourite Nursery also worth looking at but always have long waiting lists. It might depend on whether you can be flexible with days.
  2. Have you had a Covid vaccine recently? I was reliably informed it can affect your cycle today which I hadn?t heard before!
  3. Hi everyone, I am a lecturer who lives locally and two of my students are doing an online research project looking at the impact of Covid on different people. They are really struggling to get a wide range of people to take part so would be very grateful if you could take a few minutes to fill in the survey using the link below. All the details and how to ask questions are on the first page: https://reading.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/ww-sc-covid-19-survey Many thanks!
  4. I?m working on a project looking at healthy eating strategies in nurseries. We?re looking to talk to nursery professionals (managers or staff) about some resources that have been developed for use in preschools. Taking part would involve looking at the resources and then having a 20-30 min online chat about them. ?50 voucher of your choice to say thank you. Please could anyone who is interested pm me and I will give you more details. Many thanks in advance!
  5. I don?t think current guidance allows for this, although could all change by Nov of course. A recent enquiry I made even before the 6 rule came in found that most party venues weren?t taking bookings. I hope you find a solution!
  6. I?ve just done this but at no point was I asked for my details so not sure how you can be entering people into a prize draw?
  7. Nannypaye is a really helpful organisation to investigate all this. Typically, the nanny?s rate is net and then you pay all the tax on top so it?s important to be clear about the arrangements. If you go to the Nannypaye website, there is a helpful calculator to help you work it all out. They also do a booklet you can order that explains it all, plus holiday, sick pay and Nanny share arrangements.
  8. Hi all, I have a very lovely Masters student who has had to change her research project due to lockdown and is struggling to recruit participants for a survey. She is looking for women who have had a baby in the last six months to fill in a quick survey about breastfeeding and the experience of having a baby. If you think you could help, please click on the link below and it will take you to more info and then the questions. https://forms.gle/DoT8MR96kiys1DB8A Many thanks in advance!
  9. Hi, I can give some insight into MG Upland. Pm me if you would like to discuss.
  10. Posting as admin: suggest you start a new thread as the title of this one is misleading as to what the post is about.
  11. You should have received an email by now. I would suggest following up if you haven?t.
  12. I fear this won?t work with several monitors at a time - past experiences with friends with different kids in different rooms with different monitors in the same house/hotel suggest the monitors start to interfere with one another. Worth a try though and you may find some specific monitors work better than others in this sense. Good luck xx
  13. Admin posting: suggest you also post in COVID 19 thread. :)
  14. You?re not too late! Great idea to register before baby is born (which I appreciate feels quite ridiculous) and also to register with a few but most people I know have found things slot into place. I registered my youngest about halfway through her pregnancy. Our first choice didn?t offer until 18m but other places came up within my year of going back to work. I have three children and have been through three different local nurseries in the area so happy to talk specifics if you want to PM me. It may depend on your flexibility too - ie could you take days of the week offered and re-jig your days? On the flip side some prioritise people who want a full time place so worth investigating policies of the ones you?re interested in. Also worth considering nanny share or childminder for alternatives if you struggle to find a place bit def don?t give up!
  15. Agree on Bubble. Likeminders also great if you have v young children x
  16. Lizzie at Dulwich Therapy Rooms is meant to be good. They have others too if her times don?t work for you. And I believe she also works in Forrest Hill. Hope it helps, reflux is horrid :(
  17. Ps to answer your question, some of the clubs do take kids as young as 4. As pp said, Scamps, and Nimble Arts will consider it, and Dulwich Village Kids Club. The latter two are on a case by case basis and will insist on kids being completely potty trained, no personal experience of Scamps.
  18. In my experience, pre-school is the hardest age and it gets easier as they get older - more clubs available to school age and also more friends from school attending the same clubs which makes it more attractive and less intimidating for them. We ended up getting a nanny for a year while we took our middle one out of wraparound nursery and into preschool for a year but that worked because we had an older one in school and a baby at home. If an au pair is an option, I think that?s how a lot of people make it work. It may work be worth touching base with other parents to see if there are options to share childcare. Good luck! If you can cobble it together for a year or two, it does get easier.
  19. Posting as admin: you might benefit from renaming your title to be clear that you are searching for work experience in this field.
  20. Posting as admin: I?m afraid I?ve always had trouble doing it from my phone. So if you?re on a phone, trying it on a computer might solve the problem. Assume you have already tried clicking on the ?Attach a Link or Photo? link but if not, it?s just above the box you type in. If neither of these things help, hopefully someone else will come along with more technological knowledge soon...
  21. Posting on behalf of a colleague but feel free to pm me any questions. See & Eat: Get your children to eat vegetables! Professor Carmel Houston-Price and her team at the University of Reading are looking for volunteers to take part in a new project, See and Eat. The project aims to find out if e-books can help children to enjoy eating vegetables. The project is looking for families with children who are less than 4 years of age and older than 18 months, who have access to a tablet device (iOS or Android). You will be asked to download and read a free e-book about a vegetable with your child for about 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks we will send you some questions to complete about your thoughts on the e-book and your child?s eating habits. Participation is voluntary and your involvement can stop at any time. To participate, please click on the link below: https://www.foodunfolded.com/see-and-eat Please do also share the link with friends or anyone else who might be interested. If you have any questions, feel free to email Kay or Natalie at [email protected] Thank you! * This study has received ethical approval by the University of Reading Research Ethics Committee, project 2019-Mar-19, end date 2020-Dec-31
  22. So frustrating. This thread might give you some options: /forum/read.php?29,2037473,2037473#msg-2037473 There?s also magic football coaching in Dulwich Village.
  23. Hi, not sure why link above didn?t work for you but hopefully this one will: https://nannypaye.co.uk/nanny-tax-calculator FWIW, I think you?re probably about right with your numbers. Feel free to pm if you have more questions.
  24. Hello! Yes, you?re right, lots of waiting lists but also often lots of movement. Things I would consider: 1) are you looking for full or part time and if part time can you be flexible with your days? If so many nurseries can accommodate quicker. 2) are you restricted geographically? (Ie do you know specifically where you want to move to and if so how far you?d be willing for the nursery run to be?). If yes, call the local relevant local nurseries to check out your options. If no, and willing to go a bit further (eg by car) options might be wider. For eg there is a newish nursery in camberwell you could consider. 3) would you consider a nanny share? Can be a good alternative to a childminder and more affordable than sole nanny and there are always lots of ppl locally looking for shares. 4) yes, childminder also a good option - many are like mini nurseries so you can get the best of both worlds. That?s off the top of my head and I?m sure there are other options too. These things tend to work out one way or another if you put the effort in. We moved to ED without planning 5yrs ago and took a nursery place in our not first choice (which was fine but not perfect) for 6m before an offer at our favoured. We stayed there for a long time but have since also done preschool and nanny for additional children and all have worked well. Good luck and feel free to pm xx
