Oi, Pibe! Elbow - Bury. Verve - Wigan. Formby - Wigan.

I suppose we all look the bleeding same to you!

Pshhht.

And Strafer, you were agreeing with all that Quids had to say, who said,

I'm gonna side with Atticus at a general level (not Radio 6). Mancs banging on about their unique contribution to music

So you know, pshhht.

Yeah.

Kind of, though I don't think they managed quite the conurbation that is greater london, hence a Wiganite* is probably at least a little more justified in considering themselves different to a Buryman*, than say an dagenhamian* to a Kingstonite*, even if the distances are probably identical.

Of course the latter two would have much less of a chip on their shoulder about being described as Londoners ;)

*labels are pure guesswork on my part

Heh, Huguenot, you're such a cunt. Get off wikipedia and do some work.

I don't really care about Bury - apart from their fabulous black puddings of course. I'm from Wigan, went to school in Bolton, and went out / shopping in Manchester. I can tell you that they are distinct.

I can also tell you that if you took your soft southern poncey self up to Bury and told them Elbow are from Manchester, they'd punch you in the face. And you'd be none the worse off forrit I reckon ;-)

Aaaaanyway.

Has London* produced better then?

for the sake of tedious nitpicking shoulder-chippy argument, London can include anywhere withing the M25, and the home counties if the poor suburban sods left there and moved to london prior to forming said band in a desperate bid to escape their cultural vacuum shithole of a town.

But you can see how confusing it is-

Wigan's Ovation - not from Wigan

Wigan's Chosen Few - nope

Wigan Casino - not a casino

Michael Bolton...

Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine > The Mock Turtles

The division 2 of comparisons.

Doubtless the Mock Turtles actually hark from St Helens or some grim depressed ex mining town or other, I'm assuming their hit "Can You Dig It?" was a savage satirical attack on the decline of the mining industry?

    • That is almost too ridiculous to answer but I'll take the bait. You are comparing a national charity with one branch of a small charity. Cats Protection has around 34 dedicated rehoming centres. CHAT has two, Lewisham & Canning Town and a sanctuary in Sussex. So if Cats Protection have homed 34,000 cats, thats an average of 1000 per branch. From memory this years total so far for Lewisham CHAT was over 980. I saw a few homed this weekend so we may well reach 1000 for this year. The same as Cats Protection. No need for head scratching.
    • Actually, if it was factory fitted then it's location would be documented. It's the fact that it can be fitted in different places which means that it's difficult for thieves to locate.
    • OK, good suggestion and it appears that the after-market price is about £260. But if that that was fitted ex-factory then the cost would be substantially less and certainly a small fraction of the price of a high-end car.
