It has balanced out a bit more now - partly because the left have actively tried to move towards "evidence based" blogging and ideas like Netroots, and partly because loads of people on the left bought into the idea that it was "Twitter Wot Won It" for Obama four years ago!

Watch out Lulastic...I think MM may see himself as some sort of Peter Skellen to your Frankie Leith in this situation ;-)
  3. Here you go RosieH, complete with protest pics! Top choon! The next big protest in London is next Saturday - http://afuturethatworks.org/ Good luck Lulastic
  4. I also agree Wonga are legalised crooks, but does it really surprise anyone that Ashley has done a deal with them? He's hardly someone that worries about his popularity status! With regard to Muslim players, did Blackpool or Hearts not have any Muslim players when they sponsored them?
  5. I like the "I can't be bothered with this anymore, but I'm happy to meet up for a drink to discuss it further" type posts on here. I always think it is the online equivalent of actually being out for a drink and someone saying "why don't we take this outside."
  6. Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode Dinosaur Jr - Freak scene
  7. The deduction will be 14% for the first extra bedroom and 25% for those with more than one spare bedroom. It will allow for one bedroom for each person or couple living as part of the household, with the exceptions of children under 16 of the same gender expected to share; children under 10 expected to share regardless of gender; and a disabled tenant or partner who needs non resident overnight carer will be allowed an extra bedroom. The Dept of Work & Pensions' impact assessment estimates that 660,000 working age social tenants will be affected which is 31% of the working age benefit claimants living in social housing.

Yes please...I'd like your number for when my house burns down at 3am on a Sunday. I'll need someone that doesn't have any formal qualifications, but who is obviously capable of saving me because they once replaced the battery in their smoke alarm using a step ladder.
  9. The final decisions on the Welfare Reform Act still haven't been finalised - they will be made this month - but the current proposals indicate there's still plenty of changes and benefit cuts to come. Next April will see Personal Independence Payment replacing Disability Living Allowance; Council Tax Benefit cut; Benefit Cap introduced; Bedroom Tax introduced; Housing Benefit rates changed to follow CPI instead of market rates and the Social Fund abolished. It won't be until well into next year when we can get an idea on how everyone stands to be affected.
  10. I can understand why Colin was sacked and Sparky was hired. If nothing else, he had much more Premiership experience than Colin. I agree, he'll be lucky to see out the week though.
  11. Marmora Man Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I reckon I could cut that man free with a decent > Swiss Army knife in about 5 minutes. From the man that thinks you can drive a tube train after 5 days training...what a surprise!!! No doubt because you've worked in the health service you can perform brain surgery after a two week correspondence course as well.
  12. If this ever happens to me, I would like the Fire Service, not the Ambulance Service, to come and get me out ASAP. http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/63237000/jpg/_63237628_bin_man.jpg http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-19790191
  13. "Therefore the risk is low and the area doesn't need 24/7 immediate response vehicle(s)" Seriously, MM? Come on! There are people on this forum who are outraged that the Council don't run a 24/7 noise enforcement squad (or whatever they're called) or the dog turd patrol has been cutback. Just think of the reaction when the excuse for the fire service not stopping your house burning down (or worse) is that it happened at the wrong time of day!
  14. Cross Keys on Endell Street is still just about unspoilt although they like to keep their Christmas deccies up October-June.
  15. The Phoenix downstairs below Blue Bros on Charring Cross Rd. Is that still there? I seem to remember you had to be a member but that it was never a problem getting in.
  16. I see today he's claiming Cameron deliberately got the Magna Carta thing wrong on Letterman so that he didn't appear too clever: "I think he was only pretending. I think he knew full well what Magna Carta means. It was a brilliant move in order to show his demotic credentials and that he didn't have Latin bursting out of every orifice." We all know the old Boris is a clever man trying to sound dim line, but I actually found this brilliant. Boris, of all people, manages to undermine Cameron based on the idea that Cameron is a public school elitist! Have I been wrong all this time?
  17. Bradleys on Hanway Street is a great shout - that juke box is a killer! Fifteen years ago I used to live between there and the Coach and Horses. The Coaches is now absolute crap but Bradleys is exactly the same - absolutely rammed when there are more than five people upstairs and everyone out drinking in the street in the summer.
  18. It was the most crawly, bum-lick, vomit-inducing piece of crap I have ever seen on Channel 5....and that is obviously saying something.
  19. Maxxi - Rodgers has been an egomaniac for years. Just because he once happened to run the kindergarten at Chelsea, he thinks he the spawn of Mourinho.
  20. Blimey Otta...cracking MOTD if that lot turn out to be right!
  21. "Another master stroke from Rogers I see." Nice to see you coming round to my way of thinking about him Otta ;-) Wait until he unleashes his master stroke Plan B tactics to get Liverpool out of the shit they're now in....oh no, hang on....Rogers with a Plan B....sorry....as you were Liverpool.
  22. "Childcare should be deductible and child benefit should be means tested." Our tax system is based on individuals, so it would mean loads of red tape to cut through in order to means test. That would make it too expensive to do. "Now, more financially significantly, what should happen to the massive non producers and massive pensions entitlement of the group known as state employees?" Oh dear.
  23. "I don't know if the Fire Service is currently under a pay freeze, but if not, that might be a good option." - ??? 3 posts up, firefighter spc states: "no increase in wages for 3 years"
  24. Mrs TP - the next big protest is http://afuturethatworks.org - 20 October in London. Not specific to Child Benefit, but spending cuts and austerity policies in general.
