  1. I bought tickets online yesterday. Because of the closeness to the event, they can't now be posted and I have to go and pick them up - fair enough. But the message online specifically stated I could pick them up from any London 2012 box office before the event, so rather than going out to the Olympic Park, I rang them up to ask where the nearest box office is to ED or Central London. It turns out the statement on the website is actually incorrect and I have to go to the Olympic Park to collect them.
  2. Looks like Rogers is picking his tactics before looking at the strengths of the squad. He has been guilty of this before - trying to establish a new way of playing with players who just weren't capable of playing that way. Getting rid of Carroll before he's given him a chance just shows Liverpool will be playing his defensive, short passing game next season.
  3. People that don't step into the road to let me pass when I'm walking with my kids along the pavement. And trolls obviously.
  4. 160,000 at two sessions in the Olympic Stadium 52,500 at three sessions in the Aquatics Centre 36,000 at three sessions in the Basketball Arena 6,000 at the BMX circuit 7,000 at the Copper box (handball etc) 12,000 at sessions in the Veledrome 10,000 at two sessions in the water polo arena 30,000 at three sessions at ExCel 23,000 for horse riding in Greenwich 30,000 at Wimbledon 45,000 at three sessions at Horse Guards Parade 90,000 at Wembley Stadium 6,000 at Wembley Arena 6,500 at Lords 45,000 at three sessions at Earls Court It soon adds up. There's also people that will just have tickets for the Olympic Park. And that's just spectators at the ticketed venues - thousands more will be at the free events like the cycling and marathon. And there's all the people working there to factor in as well.
  5. Oops..fair enough, didn't know it wasn't used everyday, but even so - 8 days of athletics, with two capacity sessions a day equals 1,280,000 spectators in the stadium alone.
  6. TfL, the Government, bus/train/tube operators, the organisers etc - they all seem to agree. Why would they want to scaremonger? The Olympic Stadium holds 80,000 people on its own. The games are on for 16 days - that's 1,280,000 people the vast majority of which will be going on public transport. Then there are all the other venues to consider....people that will do the tourist things on the days they aren't going to events...all the teams...all the associated infrastructure, media etc. The list is pretty endless. Then of course comes the Paraolympics.
  7. Sadly, tales like yours R-C continue to grow. It's the growth of firms like Wonga that now seem to be everywhere that demonstrate this more than anything for me, and people aren't using these firms to pay for "fully fitted kitchens, power showers and hi end broadband and cable TV," it's far more base than that - housing, food etc.
  8. Oh great. Charlie Reese - the man that inspired the TEA Party! Why should we have pay for ANYTHING!!!
  9. @L2012Spectators is the account on Twitter organisers have setup
  10. It's the cycling road race. Here's the map where it goes: http://www.london2012.com/cycling-road/event/men-road-race/coursemap/
  11. Andy Carroll has to be one, if not the, worst value for money signings in Liverpool's history...but I am surprised at Rogers' stance. Surely he has to give Carroll a chance given how he finished last season and his ok performance at the Euros? Rogers is a good coach and manager, getting players that have got technical ability to organise, but he has a messiah complex and might not handle the pressure at Liverpool. He's also prone to spending large chunks of change on players that he then doesn't play. He needs a good start and shouldn't tinker too much too soon or he won't see out the season.
  12. May be you should get the train/tube then.
  13. Which proves my point! If you're at your desk at 6.30am how the hell are the Olympics going to affect your journey to work? You'll be passing through London Bridge at 6am. I doubt you'll even notice any difference let alone it being "absolute bloody nightmare."
  14. JJF - if you work a 12 hour day you're at your desk for, let's say, on average 8am, right? Of course it depends where you work, but you're probably traveling through central London around 7.30am. And then you'll be leaving work at, let say, on average 8pm, right? With those hours, I doubt you'll experience as much hassle as most people.
  15. I asked: why are some people so anti? I never made any assumption about people not welcoming the Olympics being "anti". From the bottom of my heart, I wish you a completely indifferent Olympics.
  16. I've got a friend who is a drayman. He insists there no such thing as an English lager anymore.
  17. It might not be "cool", but I'm really looking forward to the Olympics. Apart from football, I've never been to watch any of the sports I've got tickets for and I would never really watch them on TV either, but I've got tickets for six events and I'll also go and watch the torch relay when it comes to Southwark and a number of the free events such as the marathon and the road race cycling. If you don't like sport then fine, but I agree with MM - why are some people so anti? Is it really just because it's going to take longer to get to work?
  18. Hear, hear SJ. On occassion I enjoy and frequent the bishop, the actress and green and blue. And others like them. Of course, there are other places that I have stopped going to.

    .

My signal stopped working a few weeks ago. I had to get an engineer out who said the problem was "more leaves had grown on a nearby tree." He moved the dish and it worked again. I had to pay ?65 but Sky gave me compensation in the form of reducing my monthly bill for the next six months.

  21. Interesting to read all the ideas and completely agree you often end up somehow winging the holidays using all the combinations already mentioned here alongside a bit of working from home (and obviously this only works for certain jobs, on certain days and requires you to have an understanding employer). We find our calendar is littered with notes saying who's doing what and where each of the kids is going each day. It's also complicated by the number of kids you have and their respective ages. It terms of what to do during the rest of the year we've tried three main options - childminder, nursery and nanny - at various times. The nanny option was easily the best for us as they are flexible, come to your house and just work for you. But, unsurprisingly, it is easily the most expensive and therefore not an option for a lot of people. The only other thing we haven't tried is an au pair. This is partly because you need space in your home, they can't look after kids under the age of two (I think) and they are not an option for full time childcare.
  22. Sorry. Didn't realise they were ramblers. In that case, you were right - no need for a machete...you shouldn't need more than a hammer to tackle this lot... http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_JRCyqZfAnYU/SOeoNjjqhVI/AAAAAAAABQY/pVADR5zwZks/s400/ramblers3.jpg
