Sci Fi book search - FOUND

I'm struggling to remember / find the name of a book I read years ago. Probably generically a sic fi book (I'm talking about late 60s / early 70s) in which the "hero" / protagonist was a military man back in Middle Ages (or possibly Dark Age - pre 1066 with Vikings etc) - wounded, he was treated with honey &, I think, cobwebs which somehow made him almost immortal and he then became a warrior in every major conflict that followed, up to and including D Day.

Nicholas Monsaratt wrote something similar "The Master Mariner" but that was entirely sea based - this was more army warfare orientated.

Does it ring any bells with anyone - or can anyone give me a lead?

That story rings a bell with me too but I'm thinking 2000 AD or Heavy Metal comics which were mid 70s onwards

Don't know the book in question ...but have you read any Guy Gavriel Kay ?

Fantasy ,set mainly middle and pre middle ages ,lots of warfare and poloticking .

Really bad description on my part but they are heaven ,try Tigana ,or The Last Light of the Sun .

Sounds a bit like Wolf in Shadow by David Gemmell. He was always mad for a bit of the old honey in has various books though I thought it was maggots rather than cobwebs. Worth a reread I think as it's been 20 odd years.

I have no idea, but if anyone can help with a sci-fi book, probably from the 60s or 50s, which features a planet of human(kids) - maybe earth - with two suns, one yellow and one blue, please let me know. I read it at the top of the stairs in my house when I was about nine and it freaked me out!

Found it. "Corporal Cuckoo" by Gerald Kersh - a short story in one of an annual series of Sci Fi collections under the Star banner. Have managed to download a copy to Kindle app but not, yet, found a hard copy.

I've never read this story myself but will seek it out, as it clearly left an impression on its (young) readers.
